<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Once in a while, we take Product of the Month off piste to cover stuff that’s not made of metal and would hurt if it ran over your foot.</h2>



We’re doing it now, because our Product of the Month for April is Hird service.



We think it’s important to remember, every now and then, that a product is not just the kit. It is also the smile on the face (seen or sensed over the phone), the helping hand, and the challenge overcome.



It’s a bit of a journey into the intangible. You can see a robotic glass lifter (as long as it is delivered on time). But service can be less easy to define.



So, here we are talking about elements of service that have a direct impact on our customers. That makes sure the kit is delivered on time, and the customer and their client are happy.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The curious engineer</h2>



In fact, expertise has always been at the centre of our service. It is epitomised by the development by Peter Hird Snr, who founded the business, of what has become known as the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/service-and-maintenance/the-hird-test-measuring-mewp-battery-endurance">Hird Test</a>.



Back in the 1980s, after a customer complained about the poor battery performance of an access platform, Peter Hird Snr set out to develop a method for checking how long a battery should last for every type and model of MEWP in the fleet.



It was the engineer in him. He wanted to know. That determination, led to a battery endurance test – the Hird Test – that is still used by manufacturers and rental specialists around the world.

The Hird technical sales team will be presenting the equipment on stand I-36 at the show being held at the Coventry Building Society Arena in Coventry, West Midlands, on the 14th and 15th of February 2024.







The <a href="https://winlet.co.uk/products/winlet-400-tl/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Winlet 400TL glazing robot</a> has a maximum lifting capacity of 415kg. It can lift sheets of glass directly overhead to a height of 3.63m, and has an advanced manipulator to place glass precisely in apertures with almost no manual handling.

It can transport and install glass sheets measuring 3660mm x 1500mm and has a side-shifter for precise placement.

It has a maximum capacity of 1,500kg, a rotating load bed for precise placement of materials and all-terrain capability.

It has a maximum capacity of 375kg, with smart controls for extending battery life and keeping loads safe.

Extremely compact and stable, it provides a maximum working height of 20m, with a maximum outreach of 10.2m, and a basket capacity of 225kg.

Hird to showcase kit to diversify rental offers at hire show

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hird will have one of its biggest and most diverse range of equipment on display at Vertikal Days next month.</h2>

A team of Hird experts will also be on hand at the East of England Showground, Peterborough, on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th of May 2023 to explain how it all works and talk to visitors about their lifting needs.

The <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/powered-access/oilsteel-snake-2010h-plus-iveco">SNAKE 2010H Plus truck-mounted platform</a> Hird is taking to the show has a maximum working height of 20m, a maximum outreach of 10.2m and a basket capacity of 225kg.



Based on a 3.5t IVECO van chassis, it can be driven and operated with a car licence, making it very popular with both rental fleets and owner operators. Fast set up and stow functions maximises productivity.



Alongside the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/powered-access/oilsteel-snake-2010h-plus-iveco">SNAKE 2010H Plus</a> will be two Oil&amp;Steel spider boom lifts, the Octoplus 17 and Octoplus 21.

All models can also be fitted with low-emission diesel or petrol engines and as bi-energy platforms, with the addition of 110v mains electric power.

Hird’s expertise and experience as one of the UK’s leading mini crane sales specialists will be represented by the presence of two <a href="https://valla-cranes.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Manitex Valla pick and carry cranes</a> – the <a href="https://valla-cranes.co.uk/products/valla-v110r/">Valla V110R</a> and <a href="https://valla-cranes.co.uk/products/valla-v36r/">Valla V36R</a>.



Both form part of Valla’s exciting new all-electric V range of cranes, which are more compact than ever before and have smart new functionality to make lifting even easier and safer in the most challenging spaces.

Like the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/valla-pick-and-carry-cranes/valla-v36r">Valla V36R</a> it is also very compact. It is shorter and narrower than a Mini car.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Valla pick and carry crane put on display by Hird was one of the star attractions at LiftEx Liverpool – the show that presents all that’s best about the world of lifting.</h2>



Hird’s was busier than ever at the event and a lot of visitors wanted to see and talk about Valla’s new V range mini cranes.



The company displayed a <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/valla-pick-and-carry-cranes/v60r/">Valla V60R pick and carry crane</a>, along with a <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/cladding-lifters">Winlet 400TL glazing robot </a>and <a href="https://hirdsales.co.uk/righetti-cladding-lifters/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Righetti glass vacuum lifters</a>.



Hird Sales and After-Sales Manager Carl Cooper said: “It was the best LiftEx we’ve ever had in terms of the number of visitors to our stand. We were busy on both days.



“The Covid effect appears to be in the past and the market feels quite buoyant. There was a lot of interest in our equipment and the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/v-range/v60r">Valla V60R,</a> representing a new range of cranes, particularly caught the eye.”



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Power and versatility</h3>





Company representatives from Ireland and from across the UK wanted to take a close look at the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/v-range">new Valla V range of battery electric industrial cranes</a>, which set new standards of compactness, power and versatility.



The <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/v-range/v60r">Valla V60R</a> has a maximum safe working load (SWL) of 6t, a maximum working height of 7.9m and a maximum working radius of 4.9m.



Like most other cranes in the range its drive and lift functions are operated by wireless remote control, allowing the crane operator to stand in the best locations for safe and effective lifting.



Carl Cooper said: “Visitors to the Hird stand loved everything about the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/v-range/v60r">Valla V60</a> and the V range concept.



“We were also pleased with the range of sectors represented, with manufacturers, hire specialists, and heavy engineering companies visiting us to talk about Valla cranes.”

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Online lifting shop</h3>



The Hird events team was also keen to promote the new <a href="https://hirdsales.co.uk/shop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hird Shop</a>.



It allows customers to buy all types of lifting equipment from hoists and glass lifting accessories to the latest glazing robots and counterbalance floor cranes.



Among the glazing robots available is the <a href="https://winlet.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Winlet 400TL,</a> which also impressed visitors to LiftEx.



The glazing robot combines a lifting capacity of 415kg with best-in-class compactness. It can be used to lift loads to heights of 3.5m, directly overhead – and as it is battery electric powered, it is low-noise, zero fumes and has a small carbon footprint.





<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Slimline lifting</h3>



Also on display was a <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/cladding-lifters/righetti-series-cl-w/">Righetti Series CL-W battery electric cladding lifter,</a> with a maximum capacity of 375kg and a dual vacuum circuit, which provides a failsafe lifting system.



The Hird team could also show off the Righetti Slim4 glass vacuum lifter – it was held on the hook of the Valla V60R mini crane.



The vacuum lifter has a maximum lifting capacity of 400 to 500kg, depending on configuration. Its slim design and&nbsp; removable lifting arm means the vacuum lifter can be reduced to a depth of just 140mm.



This makes the lift, which has four in-line vacuum pads, ideal for working in confines space, for example behind scaffolding.

New Valla pick and carry crane catches the eye at LiftEx

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Visitors to the UK’s only dedicated event for the window, door and flat glass industry will get the chance to see the world’s best glazing robots.</h2>



That’s because Hird will be showcasing Winlet glazing robots on its stand at the show being held at the NEC, Birmingham, from 23rd to 25th May, 2023.



Hird is the UK and Ireland distributor for Danish manufacturer <a href="https://winlet.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Winlet</a>. The Hird team will also be presenting other key brands at the glazing fabricator and installer event.



They include <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/brands/wienold">Wienold Lifte mini cranes</a>, <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/brands/righetti">Righetti glass vacuum lifters</a>, and Quattrolifts counterbalance manual vacuum hoists.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Diversity on display</h3>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Winlet at Fit Show</h3>



The expert Hird sales team will have two <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/glazing-robots">Winlet glazing robots</a> on Stand T71 at FIT Show – the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/glazing-robots/winlet-375">Winlet 375</a>, which can lift panels up to 375kg, and the very popular <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/glazing-robots/winlet-575">Winlet 575</a>, which has a maximum capacity of 575kg.



All <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/glazing-robots">Winlet glazing robots</a> can be fitted with specialist vacuum cups for lifting non-smooth materials, which can include wood, plastic and metal. Extension bars can also be fitted for lifting mullioned panels.



Also on the stand will be the <a href="https://winlet.co.uk/products/ergomover-wireless/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ErgoMover Wireless</a>, one of Winlet’s innovative range of battery electric materials trolleys. It has a lifting capacity of 1,500kg, is just 700mm wide, has a rotating load deck, and all-terrain capability.

Hird will also be showing the capabilities of the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/counterbalance-floor-cranes/mfc750ks">Wienold Lifte MFC750</a> – an easy-to-operate but highly effective counterbalance mini floor crane with a safe working load of 750kg.



It can be paired with a range of <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/vacuum-lifters">glass vacuum lifters</a>, is highly compact for being moved into, and operating in, confined spaces, has excellent negative lifting duties and is quick to assemble and disassemble.

The <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/counterbalance-floor-cranes/mfc750ks">MFC750</a> can be configured in two versions – the ‘<a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/counterbalance-floor-cranes/mfc750k">K</a>’ which has the full 750kg SWL, and the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/counterbalance-floor-cranes/mfc750ks">KS</a> (known as Shorty). It has a shorter wheelbase, which is ideal for working in very limited space, and a SWL of 500kg.



Also on the stand will be the MFC751 – the first counter-weight mini floor crane on the market with full 3600 slewing, for excellent load positioning. With a SWL of 720kg, it is quick to move across sites and assemble.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Righetti at Fit Show</h3>



Hird is the UK distributor for Righetti vacuum lifters and offers them for hire. On show will be the Righetti SLIM 4, a four-cup, in line vacuum lifter which can lift up to 400kg.



Visitors can also see the Righetti VB 4, another compact glass lifter, also with a 400kg capacity, with four pads that can be extended for larger loads.



Then there is the Righetti CLW. This is a single-pad vacuum lifter for lifting cladding panels as well glass sheets, with a maximum capacity of 375kg.

Hird will also be showcasing glass transporters and lifters from Quattrolifts. These are manual vacuum hoists with hand-primed vacuum cups (though battery vacuum pumps are an optional extra).



Very easy to operate, they are ideal for transporting and installing glass in highly confined spaces, with excellent load manipulation features, including rotation, tilting and pivoting.







<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Hird will have three Quattrolift machines on display:</h4>

<li>The Quattrolifts 150T, a highly-compact glass hoist with a 150kg capacity and 3m mast;</li>
