Electric

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/crane-hire">Crane lifting</a>, <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/powered-access">powered access</a> and <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/glass-lifting">glass lifting</a> hire specialist Hird has taken delivery of the latest addition to its transport fleet.</h2>



The Scania 420P truck with a beavertail transporter has been optimised to support easy delivery and collection of Hird’s equipment, including scissor lifts, boom lifts, spider booms, pick and carry cranes and spider cranes.



Though it is the new kid on the block, joining an already extensive transport fleet, this is a grown-up vehicle with an 8×2 axle configuration supporting the carrying of a wide range of large machines in its hire fleet for tasks that include <a href="https://hird.co.uk/machinery-moving">machinery moving</a>, <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/glass-lifting">glass lifting</a>, and working at height from <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/powered-access">access platforms</a>.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Important part of service promise</h3>



The transporter has been supplied by Sterling Group and is fitted with Sterling’s Easiload beavertail body.



It is perfectly aligned with Hird’s determination to provide hire customers with the safest and most efficient equipment delivery and collection service.



To support this, Hird’s transport fleet is <a href="https://hird.co.uk/accreditations">FORS Gold accredited</a> in the south of England and London, and <a href="https://hird.co.uk/accreditations">FORS Silver accredited</a> across the rest of the country.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Safety maximised – emissions minimise</h3>



The transporter has a Euro 6 engine, which means it meets the very latest low-emission standards for particulate, NOX and CO2 emissions, contributing to our customers’ pollution and carbon footprint reduction pledges.



It also provides the latest driver comforts, with a sleeper cab, a refrigerator, and internal and external storage compartments.



The truck is fitted with the latest safety features, which maximises safe driving and operation on the road, in Hird depots and on customer worksites.



These include emergency braking indication and vulnerable road user detection on the front, rear and blind-side of the vehicle.



When the transporter is in reverse, the rear-view camera is shown in the centre display, supporting optimum safety when positioning the truck to deliver or collect equipment on worksites.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Efficient loading and unloading</h3>



Extra visibility is provided through the low-level door window, allowing the driver to see into the blind spot, also optimising site operation, which Hird customers appreciate.



The Easiload transporter mesh decking and a double-flip full-width ramp provides extra-shallow loading angles, making the it quicker and easier to load equipment, while equipment stability is maximised.



Meanwhile, cruise control with active prediction (CCAP), developed by Scania, uses GPS to analyse the ahead road topography and perfectly adjust cruising speed, even on unfamiliar roads in darkness.



Investment in the new transporter demonstrates Hird’s commitment to continuously upgrading its HGV fleet to meet its own quality and sustainability standards, while giving its drivers the best equipment – and its customers the best possible service.

Its power and flexiblity is valued by a wide range of working at height customers, including building surveyors and inspectors, tree surgeons, construction contractors and EME specialists.





<h3 class="wp-block-heading mt-0">Designed for challenging environments</h3>



Like all spider lifts, the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/all-electric-spider-boom-hire/octoplus-21">Oil&amp;Steel Octoplus 21</a> is designed specifically to be moved through constrained space, whether that be entranceways or across cluttered ground.



As a <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/spider-booms">tracked access platform</a>, it is ideal for operating over rough or soft terrain, for example on unprepared areas on construction sites, on low-load-bearing or sensitive indoor floors, or in the middle of a forest.

Our Oil&amp;Steel Octoplus 21 provides a maximum working height of 20.7m and a maximum outreach of 10.6m. This is the first advantage the platform has over rivals.

And when a few centimetres can matter when it comes to getting a job done safety, providing the best performance can make a difference.



At 630mm, the ground clearance of the Octoplus 21 when set up for working at height is also greater than other platforms in its class. This helps when working over particularly uneven ground.



Its all steel boom and body panels means the Octoplus 21 is more robust than rival platforms, while cables and the drive belt are stowed inside the boom, reducing the risk of snagging.



Boom rotation through plus or minus 1800, basket rotation through plus or minus 750 and jib up and down movement through 1160 all support precise positioning of the basket for safe and productive working.

Working from a lithium battery electric spider lift also provides operational advantages. It allows our spider lift hire customers to work more flexibly in low residential areas or low noise zones around hospitals, schools and care homes.



Using our lithium Octoplus 21, our customers can start work earlier and can go on working later, knowing they will not be disturbing their customers or their neighbours.

The Octoplus 21 has a large basket – it is 1400mm wide, which is enough for two operates to work together, if necessary. To support this, its maximum basket capacity is 250kg, across a slightly reduced working envelope.



At its full working envelope, the basket capacity is 150kg, which is plenty for a single operative (the most common set-up for spider lifts) plus a good range of tools.



Stowed for tracking, with its quick-release basket removed, the Octoplus 21 <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/spider-booms">spider cherry picker</a> is just 785mm wide and 1980mm high, allowing it to be tracked through garden gates and down narrow paths.



Equally, it can be tracked into buildings through single doorways – we have fitted spider lift with white, non-marking tracks, specifically to assist customers who want to us it for internal working.



As a <a href="https://hird.co.uk/products/spider-booms">tracked spider platform</a>, it also performs brilliantly over uneven and unstable terrain. Its hydraulic tracks can be extended to increase stability, contributing to gradeability of 30%.



One button platform automatic outrigger levelling and stowing for fast and safe platform set-up is also a popular feature.



As is its ability to automatically remain at the same distance from a structure while it is raised or lowered, making the platform easier and safer to operate.

Product of the Month – Oil&amp;Steel Octoplus 21 spider lift

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">An Octoplus 17 hired from Hird has demonstrated the spider lift’s advantages for maintaining trees.</h2>





The tracked spider platform was used to work at height on a tree adjacent to a paved area behind a property.



The spider lift could be set up close to the tree, allowing a tree surgeon to work safely and efficiently without the need for conventional rope access.
