Five in five – the depot that’s central to access and lifting service
There are hire service depots that supply one type of machinery and one service – then there is Hird’s Central Depot!
Serving large parts of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the East Midlands, it delivers an extraordinary range of hire services, backed by equally impressive expertise.
Customers in Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield, Leeds, Scunthorpe, Mansfield, Chesterfield, and Lincoln all rely on the Hird Central depot for access platform, crane and glass lifter hire support.
This article breaks down the depot’s service range into five specialist areas, with five types of hire equipment and services described in each one.
First, though, what is it that customers like about the service offer at the Hird Central Depot, located in Doncaster, South Yorkshire?
Let’s keep it simple, with five clear service strengths:

– Friendliness goes a long way and sits hand-in-hand with expertise. We like to help, it makes us happy, and it makes our customers happy.
Five in five – access hire
Access platform hire has been a core service available from Hird for many years. We have one of the largest fleets of modern MEWPs in the UK, with a good chunk of the stock based at the Central Depot in Doncaster.
That includes offering the latest and most capable all-electric cherry pickers and scissor lifts that deliver more eco-friendly and, often, more capable height working service.
Also, Hird holds IPAF Rental+ accreditation, which means our customers can be confident we give them the best quality service at every stage of the MEWP rental process.
- Including diesel booms like the 12.5m Genie Z34/22 and 25.8m Genie Z80/60. Or select the Genie Z60FE Hybrid, combining the best of electric and diesel technology in one MEWP.
- Go for the diesel rough terrain scissors like the 14.1m Genie GS-4069 RT, or electric slab scissors such as the 9.9m GS-2632 or stick with rough terrain, with the 22m electric Dingli JCPT2223DC.
