Hird Service, Part 2 – Quality Counts
Hird has always recognised service excellence is based on standards and capabilities that directly lead to real differences for our customers.
It means quality counts. In Part 2 of our exploration of Hird Service, we will look at key elements of our operation that define the quality of our service.
In Part 1, published as our April Product of the Month, we looked at the expertise of our teams, the problem-solving abilities of our technicians and how listening to customers counts for a lot with Hird.
Leading on service standards
Also essential to our operations are service standards.
We provide equipment and services used in safety-critical environments for safety-critical tasks.
Mini cranes, glass lifting equipment and access platforms, to name just three of our equipment hire categories, are all governed by regulations that must be adhered to.
At Hird, our teams take this responsibility extremely seriously. As a starting point, we hold accreditations and association memberships that customers would expert for an operation like ours.
For example, we are an IPAF Rental Plus access hire company and are a member of Alcumus Safe Constructor. Also, our training teams are approved to deliver courses under the Construction Plant Competence Scheme.
Transport safety and sustainability
Hird is also a FORS Gold transport fleet operator, a standard that most other hire companies do not aspire to achieve.
It means our vehicles, and the systems that manage them, have been rigorously assessed against extremely high standards. And they have passed the test.
We could only achieve FORS Gold because we could demonstrate we do things very well.
All our drivers are very well trained. They are motivated to deliver equipment on time and in the right place, safely, in accordance with all traffic regulations.
They are knowledgeable about the equipment they deliver. They are ready to help customers making sure all machines they are ready to use. They smile: most of the time.
Our fleet of deliver HGVs are among the most modern and capable in our industry. They more than meet all urban emissions standards.
They are designed to ensure equipment can be loaded and off-loaded quickly and safely in the most challenging spaces.
All this supports our ability, where it is needed, to deliver and collect equipment just in time and out of hours.
Exceptional equipment – maintained exceptionally
If delivering machines was all that counted, our work would be so much easier.
But Hird does much more. With all plant hire, but perhaps with crane hire, glass lifter hire, and MEWP hire more than most, selecting the right equipment for the right job is critical.
Hird continuously reviews its stock and invests in new equipment as customers require it, or if it offers previously unavailable advantages.
We also work closely with suppliers to facilitate this process – to the point that we regularly contribute to the concept and design of equipment we eventually take into our hire fleet.
An example of this includes the development of our Kappel adjustable fin lifter. With a capacity of 1,800kg and the ability to be extending to 9m in length, it owes its existence to our identification of a customer need.
There have been many others. Manufacturers trust our judgement, because they know we understand our customers. In turn, that helps customers know they can trust us.
Hird service is an integral element of the total hire solution we deliver for our customers.
We would like to think that if you have a lifting, carrying or working at height challenge, we will find the right solution: every time.
Efficient and sustainable service
We also make sure we provide customers with equipment that looks good as well a performs extremely well.
That counts for a lot for customers for whom quality also counts. And who have main contractor clients who think the same.
All element of the Hird hire process is also controlled by highly-efficient digital systems. We use the latest hire software, so selecting, booking-in and managing the right equipment is easier and seamless.
It also means our service is paperless. So it is as sustainable as possible. We constantly strive to eliminate wasteful practices, making our carbon footprint as small as possible.
Which is an advantage that contributes to our customers’ own NetZero commitments, too.
