Sewage lifting team flush with success thanks to Maeda mini crane
A Maeda mini crane and a boom lift supplied by Hird have been used to support work on a sewage treatment tank by lifting materials into a giant concrete tank.
The Maeda MC305 spider crane combined with a stone grab proved to be the ideal lifting combination to allow engineers to carry out the maintenance at a sewage treatment works in Staffordshire.
The Maeda MC305 mini crane has a maximum safe working load of 2.98t, a maximum working height of 12.52m, and a maximum working radius of 12.16m.
Safe and productive
Using the tracked mini crane was the safest and most productive way to get the materials into the tank, which was five metres high and had an overhanging wall.
Hird provided a trained and experienced crane operator along with the Maeda MC305 mini crane which was also ideal for tracking to the lift location across low load-bearing gravel.
The stone grab was used to lift pallets containing the materials needed for the work. A client’s operative could supervise the lift from the basket of a Niftylift Height Rider 12 4×4 boom lift, also supplied by Hird.
The all-terrain electric cherry picker has a maximum safe working height of 12.2m, an outreach of 6.1m and a basket capacity of 200kg.
As an electric boom lift, it creates no emissions but can operate in challenging outdoor conditions, with gradeability of 30 degrees, an all-wheel drive traction system, and long-lasting batteries.
Restricted access
The project demonstrated the versatility of Maeda mini spider cranes, which are at home providing superior crane lifting performance in a wide range of industrial sectors, including manufacturing, construction, structural maintenance, water utilities and facilities management.
They often allow lifts to be carried out in highly confines spaces. The Maeda MC305 is just 1208mm wide in tracking mode so can access areas to complete lifts that might otherwise have to be carried out by a more expensive mobile crane positioned farther from the load.
A good example of this was the use of a Hird Maeda MC305 spider crane to support construction of biogas tanks at an anaerobic digestion plant at a farm in Telford, Shropshire – the kind of facility often built by water companies at sewage works
Mini crane hire options
Hird has a full range of Maeda cranes in its spider crane hire fleet, ranging from the Maeda MC174 with a SWL of 1.72t to the MC815 with a SWL of 8t. Other models include the new MC285-3, with a SLW of 2.82t and full digital controls.
Maeda mini cranes have industry-leading features including variable outriggers, excellent negative duty performance, full remote control and, for selected models, optional detachable electric motors.
Hird also has an extensive pick and carry crane hire fleet, with a full range of Valla compact industrial cranes, with lifting capacities from 2t to 25t, and very competitive mini crane hire rates.
