Hird carries out emergency crane lift at Royal College of Art
Hird was quick to respond with an emergency crane lift after a canopy was struck by a lorry at the Royal College of Art in London.
The mini crane, glass lifting and powered access specialist had supported the installation of the canopy at the college in Kensington Gore, Kensington, West London.
However, later the canopy was struck by a lorry and left unstable.
The college’s facilities team immediately called Hird to ask if it could send another mini crane to the site to support the process of making the damaged structure safe.
Hird Director John Wilding said: “Within two hours we had a mini crane and a CPCS-accredited cane operator at the scene, ready to lift and hold the structure while repairs were carried out.
“Our response illustrates our ability and willingness to respond quickly to our customers’ needs. We have the capacity and expertise to needed to carry out emergency crane lifts like this.”
The mini crane deployed was a UNIC 706 spider crane, which as a maximum safe working load of 6 tonnes and a maximum working height of 19.5 metres.
