Hird dome lift takes park back to Victorian era
A Hird mobile crane has lifted a steel dome and cupola to reach a major milestone in the restoration of a Yorkshire park.
The Grove 3050 mobile crane was used to lift roof elements of the Dome House in the Cliffe Castle Park, in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
Steelwork weighing 9.5 tonnes was carefully lifted into position to form the most eye-catching element of new glasshouses.
The aim of the £4.5m project, supported by a £3.5m from the National Lottery grant, is to return the park and the Cliffe Castle Museum back to their Victorian splendour.
The Dome House will be home to a newly planted Norfolk Island Pine, and will form part of the glasshouse range that houses a café and toilets for visitors to the park and museum.
Hird’s Grove 3050 mobile crane, with its maximum safe lifting weight of 50 tonnes, was ideal for the lift, which was watched by civic dignitaries and park conservation campaigners.
While Hird’s crane operator lifted the dome, other contractors used a scissor lift and a cherry picker to help guide the dome into position, and fix it into place.
The lift was overseen by highly skilled and experienced members of Hird’s contract lifting team.
As well as the Grove 3050 mobile crane, Hird has a Grove GMK 4100L All Terrain mobile crane, with a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tonnes, available for hire and contract lifting projects.
Hird can work with other contractors or provide end-to-end management of lifting projects, supplying all lifting, moving and access equipment needed to complete even the most complex lifts.
Hird also has a large fleet of mini cranes for hire, including pick and carry cranes and spider cranes, so lifts of all sizes and types can be completed safely and efficiently.
Accredited lifting and crane operator training is provided at one of our training centres, based at our three operational centres across the UK, or at client sites, if they are suitable.
