Product of the Month – Valla V180RC pick and carry crane

Product of the Month – Valla V180RC pick and carry crane

Our Product of the Month, the hugely impressive Valla V180RC pick and carry crane, is a record breaker.

Because it has the biggest specification sheet for any Valla mini crane Hird has ever added to its hire fleet.

It is 22 pages long. That’s a lot of specification. Because, with the Valla V180RC, Hird is able to give its customers a lot of pick and carry crane.

Not in terms of size, of course. It is as compact as they come.

But, as one of the latest models in the Valla’s new V Range of mini cranes, it, it packs in so much capability.

Valla V180RC - Technical Specification Brochure

Powerful mini crane

The Valla V180RC has a safe working load (SWL) of 18 tonnes. In standard set-up it has a maximum working height of 12.5m and a maximum radius of 8.1.

It is powered by highly-efficient and long-lasting batteries to provide low noise and zero emissions lifting both outdoors and indoors (the mini crane is fitted with non-marking tyres).

Stating its standard set-up performance is just the start of what this powerful mini crane can do.

Firstly, the RC in the name reflects the fact that this pick and carry crane has a cab. So, of course, it can be operated from the cab.

But it can also be operated using a wireless remote control, just like the Valla V180R, which does not have a cab. Or an operator can use a mix of both.

Ultimate flexibility

This provides the crane operator with ultimate flexibility. They can get right up close to the load, or stand anywhere else they choose, to control the lift in the safest and most productive manner.

Or, if it is raining, they can sit in the cab. The choice is theirs.

The Valla V180RC mini crane also has front stabilisers which extends its working envelope and the size of loads it can lift.

It has a variable tilt head. This incrementally increases the working radius and hook height, which can be helpful in constrained space.

The Valla V180RC can be fitted with a winch or hydraulic fly jib. But this is not any fly jib. It is one with a hydraulic extension bar.

This extends the mini crane’s working radius, which can be critical for lifting over obstacles or where working height is restricted by roofs, machinery or other structures.

Front stabilisers

For example, with the fly jib in its retracted position, the head in position 1 (there are two other positions) and lifting free on wheels (stabilisers not deployed), maximum working height is 14m, with a SWL of 6t and maximum radius is 10.81m, with a SLW of 2.1t.

If you extend the fly jib, maximum working height extends to 14.78m, with a SWL of 5.2m, and maximum radius goes out to 11.59, with a SWL of 1.9m.

Just to demonstrate what the front stabilisers add to the mix, adding them to the set up with the fly jib in its retracted position increases the SWL at the maximum working height by 1.3t (to 7.3t) and the SWL at maximum radius by 1t (to 3.1t).

With a pick and carry crane that offers such flexible lifting options, there are many other permutations, so we are going to stop there.

Safety and productivity optimised

But it is clear to see, the Valla 180RC allows lifts to be carried out with precisely the right set up for the load and other variables, which optimises safety, productivity and sustainability.

This makes the mini crane ideal for many different lifting tasks, including: machinery installation, removal or moving; equipment loading; factory maintenance; aviation maintenance; and specialist construction tasks.

The mini cranes safety and productivity credentials are second to none, as it is fitted with a 3B6 digital load monitoring system, that aides full control of lifts and monitoring of lifting data.

Crane operator training

Supporting safe lifting, Hird can provide familiarity training as part of a mini crane hire package. The crane can also be supplied with a qualified and experienced crane operator.

Hird also provides CPCS Compact Crane (B Mobile Industrial) training for operators intending to use the Valla 180RC at each of its three operational hubs.

We can also carry out contract lifts with this crane or any other mini crane in the Hird crane hire fleet (which includes mobile cranes).
