Product of the Month – Valla V110R pick and carry crane
It is the pick and carry crane that gives your lifting project wings.
We’re talking about the Valla V110R mini crane, our Product of the Month for November.
Wings, because the industrial crane has capabilities that free the operator from restrictions commonly experienced during lifting tasks.
Also, it is a model from the Valla V range that has recently been selected by a major aircraft (MRO) maintenance specialist.
As the UK and Ireland distributor for Manitex Valla Cranes, Hird can sell the Valla V110R to any company that needs it.
We also now have the pick and carry crane available in our mini crane hire fleet.
It is one of a growing range of ‘V’ cranes being developed and launched by Valla, with capabilities to take lifting in a wide range of industrial sectors to another level.
Lifting sweet spot
The V range is designed to set new standards in terms of compactness, ease of use, sustainability, lifting safety and lifting flexibility.
So, what is particularly special about the Valla V110R?
Firstly, it sits just about in the middle of the current Valla V range – which has pick and carry crane options with maximum safe working loads (SWL) from 3.6t to 21t.
Therefore it is in a sweet spot, where it combines impressive lifting – its maximum SWL is 11t – with equally impressive compactness.
The mini crane is just 1497mm wide, 4575mm long and 2232mm high when stowed for transport – and it weighs 11.4t.
That is more compact (certainly in terms of width and length) that a mid-range family SUV car like the Ford Kuga.
Yet, the pick and carry crane has a maximum working height of 10m, at which point it can lift 4t, and can lift 1.9t at its maximum working radius of 6.2m.
Put that in perspective, the Valla 90E, which has a maximum SWL of 9t, 2t less than the Valla V110R, is 238mm wider and 123mm taller. And it is width and height that are often the two critical constraints when working in tight spaces.
Wireless control
As with other Valla pick and carry cranes, the Valla V110R’s articulating rear axle allows it to be moved into the best position with millimetre precision to carry out lifts.
A reason why the crane is so compact is because it does not have a cab. It is remotely controlled with a wireless hand-held console both for driving and lifting duties.
While reducing the crane’s height, it also allows the operator to position themselves in exactly the right place to control the lift – which could be several metres from the body of the crane, for example at the hook or load end of the action or off to the side.
Accessorised lifting
The Valla V110R (the R is for remote control) can also be combined with a number of powerful accessories.
As with all Valla V cranes, it can be fitted with a powerful electric winch, and has a variable position jib head.
It can be fitted with a hydraulic fly jib, with a maximum SWL of 5t, a SWL of 1.5t at an extended maximum tip height of 12.5m and a SWL of 1.1t at a maximum radius of 7.3m.
The jib extends the up and over reach of the Valla V110R, providing those extra centimetres that are often critical for safe and efficient lifting projects in industrial environments.
Of course, all models in Hird’s V crane hire fleet can be used with other lifting accessories, for example glass vacuum lifters, stone lifters, and cladding lifters, including our Righetti lifters.
Sustainable power
This broad range of attributes – lifting power, industry-leading compactness and an ability to be combined with a range of accessories to maximise lifting flexibility – provide grounds, we say, for ‘best ever’ status.
Not mentioned, so far, is the fact that all Valla V cranes are battery electric powered. Their advanced, long-lasting batteries, with technology to ensure smooth and precise load control, make lifting in the most challenging of circumstance easier and safer.
As electric cranes, Valla V cranes are fume-free, low-noise and generate zero emissions at the point of lift, which means their operational carbon footprints are minimised and they can be used in clean environments.
Aviation application
It is no wonder the Valla V110R (and other cranes in the V range) are causing a stir in the aviation industry.
Hird is Manitex Valla’s global aviation lifting partner. We have specific expertise in configuring pick and carry cranes for optimum performance in aviation maintenance environments.
For example, we have delivered a Valla V110R pick and carry crane to the Dubai fixed base operation of aviation maintenance specialist Jet Aviation to significantly improve its lifting capabilities.
In 2023, the Valla V110R crane won a major seal of approval at MRO Middle East in Dubai – where hangar manufacturers were discussing a trend to build hangars without integrated overhead cranes to reduce costs.
Hird Sales and After-Sales Manager Carl Cooper said: “After seeing details of our Valla pick and carry cranes, including the Valla V110R, they said they were clearly the perfect option to carry out lifting duties in hangars without a gantry crane.”
There you go, Valla V cranes release aviation maintenance engineers from constraints imposed by fixed lifting gantries. It is time to let your lifting projects fly!
Hugely capable
As a pick and carry crane, the Valla V110R can be used to carry out maintenance tasks on airport aprons, or move equipment between buildings, simplifying lifting processes in ways that enhance safety and productivity.
It can also be used to remove or install machinery and materials during commissioning, decommissioning and maintenance projects in factories, petrochemical plants, and energy and water utility sites.
There is no doubt it is a hugely capable pick and carry crane that represents a significant step forward in mini crane lifting capability. Industrial lifting of the future is ready for take-off.
