Product of the Month – Valla fork attachment

Not all loads are best lifted with a hook. So, our August Product of the Month is the Valla pick and carry crane fork attachment.

This accessory adds an extra dimension to already powerful and versatile mini cranes to provide optimum lifting solutions in the most challenging spaces.

The Valla fork attachment can be combined with a range of pick and carry cranes, including the Valla V80R, the Valla V210R and the Valla 250E.

Using the attachment, our Valla pick and carry cranes can lift palletised loads or equipment fitted with forklift slots in highly confined spaces.

Fork attachment advantages

It means materials and equipment can be lifted into or out of locations that other equipment, including forklifts and telehandlers, cannot reach.

Of course, it also means machinery can be lifted up for inspection or repair purposes, or to clear a space so operatives can work on other equipment.

The forks can be positioned hydraulically, and are also self-levelling for quick and safe operations. The attachment combines the versatility of lifting with forks with the distinct advantages of Valla pick and carry cranes.

Compact lifting

Take, for example, the Valla V210R industrial mini crane. For the record, when lifting with the hook, the crane has a maximum safe working load of 21t.

Fitted with the Valla forklift attachment, that SWL is adjusted to 10t.

The maximum working height with forks is 11.7m, at which point it can still lift a hefty 4t. Maximum radius with forks is 9.3m, with a SWL of 1.4t.

Compare that to a forklift or telehandler with 10t capacities. Neither machines can complete with the Valla V210R’s working envelope. Nor are they as compact.

The Valla V210R in our mini crane hire fleet is 2200mm high and 1980mm wide. The remote controlled Valla V210R, which does not have a ride-on cab and can be bought from Hird, is even more compact, with a height of just 2000mm.

A comparable electric forklift we checked out was 2565mm high and 2040mm wide. While a telehandler with a 10t SWL was 2900mm high and 2400mm wide.

Sustainable lifting

Such comparisons are, perhaps, not strictly relevant. Lifts should always be carried out with the most appropriate equipment and procedures, based on the specific circumstances in play.

With Valla pick and carry cranes, key advantages are their compactness, mobility and flexible lifting range in confines spaces.

These attributes can now be combined with the Valla fork attachment to create wholly new options and capabilities.

So let’s take a look at two of the other Valla pick and carry cranes in the Hird mini crane hire fleet that can be used with the fork attachment.

Valla V80R with fork attachment

In its conventional set-up, the Valla V80R is an electric pick and carry crane with a maximum SWL of 8t. With the fork attachment that moves to 3t.
