Product of the Month – Maeda MC305 all-electric spider crane

Product of the Month – Maeda MC305 all-electric spider crane

Going green is no longer a fad. It’s an urgent need. That’s why our Product of the Month for April is the all-electric Maeda MC305 spider crane.

The UK government’s commitment to create a net zero economy by 2050 is concentrating minds on reducing carbon footprints across all industries.

When it comes to crane lifting, Hird is determined to offer customers the best options for meeting their own carbon reduction commitments – and to carry out low-noise, zero fumes lifting when it is an advantage.

Which is where mini cranes like our all-electric Maeda MC305 come into the equation.

Fast recharge

It is one of a new generation of cranes entering the Hird Maeda spider crane hire fleet that have all-electric power thanks to their highly-efficient lithium batteries.

The Maeda MC305 has a maximum safe working load (SWL) of 2.98t, a maximum working height of 12.5m and a maximum working radius of 12.16m.

The mini crane can also be fitted with a searcher hook for extending reach over obstacles and under low ceilings, with a maximum SWL of 1,500kg.

The Maeda MC305 provide a battery run-time of up to 8 hours, depending on usage. It can also be charged using a 110v 16amp standard plug while still being operated, so there is no charging downtime.

Did you know?

Electricity may be all the rage now, but the word was first coined more than 400 years ago, when Elizabeth 1 was still on the throne.

British natural philosopher William Gilbert created the word electricus to describe the attractive (magnetic) properties of amber in a text called De Magnete written in 1600.

Father of Electricity

Glass lifting crane

The Maeda MC305 electric mini crane is impressing clients on lifting jobs across the UK. For example, it has been used to install glass in a new-build project where low-noise operation was a key concern.

It was combined with a Kappel DSZ2 vacuum lifter, also selected from the Hird glass lifting equipment hire fleet, to install large glass panels, an increasingly important task in larger modern homes.

The DSZ2 (also battery electric powered) has a maximum lifting capacity of 450kg in its most compact configuration. That increases to 750kg with four lifting arms and four extra suction pads fitted.

The Kappel DSZ2 glass vacuum lifter is especially slim, to aid the installation of glass in spaces where space in front of the window aperture is constrained, potentially by scaffolding.

The Maeda MC305 can also be combined with the Wirth mini crane glass manipulator, for excellent control of glass panels during installation.

With a maximum lifting capacity of 600kg, it provides powered up and down movement through 60 degrees, rotation through 95 degrees and head slew, left and right, through 40 degrees.

Phenomenal performance

The all-electric Maeda MC305 spider crane delivers phenomenal performance as well as low noise and low-carbon footprint lifting.

All functions can be monitored and controlled via a 7-inch full colour high definition display screen – as well as a wireless remote control, to allow the operative to take up the safest position to carry out lifts.

The Maeda MC305 compact crawler crane has variable outriggers to optimise performance in restricted space and rubber tracks to enhance safe operation across sensitive and low load bearing floors.

As an all-electric crane, it is ideal for both indoor and outdoor work, and circumstances where lifting in both environments are needed during the same shift.

Negative lifting capability

Another all-electric spider crane available from Hird is the Maeda MC285CB-3 Eco. It has a maximum SWL of 2.82t, a maximum working height of 8.7m and a maximum working radius of 8.025m.

Like the Maeda MC305, it is driven by lithium battery power and can fast charge while the crane is in operation.

Also, like the Maeda MC305, the spider crane has excellent negative lifting duties, with a maximum SWL of 710kg down to 40.4m. This extends to a SWL of 900kg down to 100m with an auxiliary winch fitted.

With a tracking width of just 750mm, narrower than a standard door (the MC305 is 1280mm).

This means, while its working height and radius cannot match the Maeda MC305, it can operate in more constrained space.

Electric lifting leaders

The new all-electric spider cranes join a wide and growing range of battery electric powered equipment that puts Hird at the forefront of delivering sustainable lifting solutions across the UK.

We are the UK and Ireland authorised distributors for both Valla pick and carry cranes and Winlet lifting and moving products, which include advanced glazing robots and materials trolleys.

Valla Cranes, part of the Manitex group of companies, has been a global leader in manufacturing electric industrial cranes for decades.

Hird’s pick and carry hire fleet includes electric Valla cranes with SWLs ranging from the Valla 22E, with a SWL of 2.25t, up to the Valla 250E with a SWL of 25t.

We are now introducing to the UK, Valla’s V range of pick and carry cranes, offering new standards in compact crane design and all-electric crane lifting.

Already available in the Hird crane fleet are the Valla V36R, a wireless remote control crane with a SWL of 3.6t, the Valla V80R, also remotely controlled with a SWL of 8t, and the Valla V210R, with a SWL of 21t.

Hird can supply Valla cranes for hire or for sale. All models can be manufactured according to client needs. The Valla V range, in particular, is designed to provide flexible lifting, with a wide range of accessories, including fly jibs, searcher hooks, winches and forks.

Glass lifting excellence

Winlet electric glazing robots and trolleys are revolutionising glass lifting and material movement on construction sites across the UK.

Glazing robots include the Winlet 400 TL, which is fitted with Winlet’s latest and most controllable lifting head, with a maximum SWL of 400kg, and the capability to install glass smoothly and quickly, with almost no manual handling, at any conceivable angle, even directly overhead to a height of 3.15m.

Also in the glass lifting hire fleet is the Winlet 1000 TRX, a tracked glazing robot that can lift panels weighing up to 1 tonne, and can operate across very uneven and low load-bearing ground.

The Winlet ErgoMover Manipulator is one of three electric material trolleys available for hire from Hird. It has a lifting capacity of 1.5t and can set down (or pick up) materials on trestles and can raise loads, for example a stack of plasterboard to a vertical position.

Electric lifting training

So you can see, Hird’s Maeda MC305 lithium battery powered mini crane is both a world-beating sustainable lifting option, and just one of many all-electric lifting and material moving machines available from Hird.

As our move from thermal engine power to electric power continues, you can be sure that Hird will remain at the cutting edge of low noise, zero emissions and low carbon footprint crane hire.

Hird can also provide all the accredited training needed to operate all the advanced lifting equipment it hires and sells, including CPSC A66 compact crane training, LEEA vacuum robot training, and RTITB glass vacuum lifter training.
