5 advantages you need to know about Valla’s new ‘V Cranes’

5 advantages you need to know about Valla’s new ‘V Cranes’

Eye-catching – futuristic even – a new range of Valla cranes being added to Hird’s pick and carry crane hire fleet is always going to get noticed.

What’s special about the new Valla V range of mini cranes is that they are very much worth a closer look.

This is not just crane beauty over substance. Can a crane be beautiful? That’s a topic for another time. Valla’s V cranes truly add extra performance across all key parameters.

Which is why we are bringing together 5 advantages the new mini crane designs, and the advanced technology behind them, deliver for a huge number of lifting tasks.

1. Industry-leading compactness

Valla pick and carry cranes have always been designed to be compact. To be able to be moved though and into the tightest spots to carry out lifts impossible for other cranes.

But Valla V cranes take this attribute to another level. They really have true compact credentials.

Take the Valla V80R mini crane. It has a maximum safe working load (SWL) of 8t, can lift 2t at its maximum working height of 9m, and 1.3t at its maximum radius of 5.5 metres.

Compare that to the Valla 75E pick and carry crane. It has a maximum SWL of 7.5t, a maximum tip height of just shy of 8m, and a maximum radius of 5.4m.

So, the Valla V80R can lift more, yet is more compact in all dimensions.

  • The Valla V80R is 3190mm long, shorter by 150mm than the Valla 75E
  • It is 1895mm high, 395mm less than a Valla 75E
  • And 1400mm wide, 380mm less than a Valla 75E

Anyone who operates pick and carry cranes knows (lack of) size is everything, so those stats are telling. Millimetres can make a difference when carrying out lifts in tight industrial spaces.

A key design feature, here, is that most Valla V cranes can be supplied without a cab and with radio remote control.

That allows the height of the mini crane to be dropped and lots of control gubbins to be removed, contributing to a major performance advantage.

2. Ease of operation

It also means the crane operator can place themselves perfectly to control every lift. Whether that means working alone or with a slinger, he or she can stand in the best position every time.

This allows lifts to be completed with optimum safety and, often, in less time. That means reduced risk of damage to the load, the crane and surrounding structures.

Valla V crane controls have been redesigned to be simpler and more intuitive to operate. Exceptionally smooth and precise hydraulic systems deliver millimetre perfect control.

A full-colour HD digital screen on the remote control console gives the crane operator clear information that adds yet another dimension of control, with a full suite of sensors and alarms.

Larger cranes in the V range do have cabs. For example, the Valla V210RC – the C standing for cab (or cabin) – is available in the Hird pick and carry crane hire fleet.

It has a maximum SWL of 21t, a maximum working height of 12m (SWL 8t) and maximum radius of 8.1m (SWL 3.6t). Yet it is still more compact than other comparable cranes on the market.

3. All-electric power

All cranes in the Valla V range are battery electric powered. This makes them zero-fumes, low carbon footprint and low noise – adding up to impressive sustainability credentials.

Therefore, V range cranes are ideal for indoor / outdoor working, where the cranes are expected to switch between the two environments. An example would be lifting in aircraft hangars and on an airport apron.

It also means they are ideal for use in precision engineering clean working  environments (the mini cranes are fitted with non-marking tyres) where low noise operation is essential for team working and safety.

The long-life advanced battery systems deliver long working cycles, though all the cranes have onboard charging systems.

4. Built-in flexibility

A key objective of Valla’s designers was to create cranes that delivered a range of new possibilities in terms of flexible lifting.

This means Hird can supply Valla V cranes for hire that can be combined with a range of accessories to enhance lifting power or safely take on new challenges beyond the reach of other cranes.

For example, our Valla V36R, which has a maximum SWL of 3.6t, has a hydraulic fly jib which extends the crane’s maximum working height from 7.1m to 8.5m and its working radius from 4.8m to 6m.

All Valla V cranes in the mini crane hire fleet can also be fitted with powerful electric winches and have variable position jib heads.

Hird’s Valla V80R and Valla V210R (and the Valla 250E, which is not in the V range) can also be combined with a hydraulic fork attachment: not all loads are best lifted with a hook.

This brings together the advantages of the pick and carry crane – most notably their compactness – with those of the telehandler, for example lifting palletised loads or equipment fitted with fork slots.

Valla is adding to this flexibility with its new RX cranes, currently the V100RX and V130RX. These have chassis that extend by 700mm, increasing stability during lifts.

Hird does not currently offer these cranes in its hire fleet. However, as the UK and Ireland distributor for Manitex Valla Cranes, we are able to sell them.

5. All sector application

The capabilities of Hird’s Valla V pick and carry cranes means they deliver exceptional performance across all industrial sectors.

From machinery moving in factories to curtain wall and glass installation on construction sites, Hird’s Valla V cranes can carry out lifting tasks beyond the scope of other lifting systems.

They help ensure lifts can be carried out with least disruption, more quickly and more safely, with minimised manual handling – and in ways that generate the smallest carbon footprint.

Hird’s Valla cranes fleet

Hird has a comprehensive range of Valla pick and carry cranes in its hire fleet from the Valla 20E TRX, an electric mini crane with a SWL of 2t, to the previously mentioned Valla 250E, which has a SWL of 25t.

Valla V cranes in the fleet already mentioned are the Valla V36R, the Valla V80R, and the Valla V210R.

A third is the Valla V110R, which has a SWL of 11t, a maximum working height of 10m (SWL 4t) and a maximum radius of 6.2m (SWL 1.9t).

More V range cranes are in the pipeline, not least because Valla is continuing to expand the range. Hird can also sell all cranes across the Valla V range to UK and Ireland customers.
