UNIC spider cranes – the mini crane that give you flexible lifting power
In this day and age of efficient use of resources and complex building design, space can be limited. Here’s the solution – the UNIC spider crane.
It’s a mini crane with excellent lifting power in areas with restricted access and difficult working space, and Hird has a range of spider cranes to choose from.
The UNIC spider crane is designed to get where you need it, on low impact rubber tracks. Then, you can quickly extend its four stabilising arms to create a firm lifting platform.
The mini crane is then ready to go into action, with a range of lifting tasks, including glass lifting and installation, wall panel lifting and steel erection. The UNIC spider crane is also ideal for interior and exterior lifting projects.
Because of its design, the spider crane is one of the narrowest mini cranes on the market. This allows it to get to other places other mini cranes cannot reach – such as through interior doors and garden gates.
It is no wonder that our clients are impressed with their capabilities, which is why we were proud to supply spider cranes for glass lifting requirements on the Shard project in London, Western Europe’s tallest building.

UNIC URW-094– this is Hird’s smallest and lightest mini crane, weighing only 1,000 kg but with a lifting capacity of up to 995 kg, it is perfect for confined spaces.
UNIC URW-295 – this is our most popular spider crane. It has remote control operation and safe load indicators, it has a maximum lift of a hefty 2.9 tonnes. A real middle-weight champion!
UNIC URW-506 – a real workhorse of the Hird mini crane fleet, the URW-506 has a 15.7m boom reach, dual fuel operations, ideal for inside and outdoor applications and industry-leading safety features.
UNIC URW-706 – the heavyweight in the Hird spider crane fleet, this mighty operator has a lifting capacity of up to 6 tonnes, making it a class leader, a 19.2m boom extension and extendable fly jib / searcher hook as standard.
