World class design centre gets curved glass lift

World class design centre gets curved glass lift

One of the world’s most famous interior design centres was always going to be up for a challenge when it came to a refurbishment programme.

And so it proved when large curved glass panels were selected to create a striking new look on its main facades.

Thankfully, building innovation is in step with glass lifting innovation.

Because the glass panels could be lifted with Hird’s Hydraulica 1500 Curved vacuum glass lifter which can lift loads up to 1.5t in weight.

The Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, in West London, is a global Mecca for ideas for creating the most luxurious, eye-catching, current and practical homes and workplaces.

Lifting curved glass

It also likes to make a statement. These large 400kg curved glass panels installed at the entrance to the centre certainly do just that.

The glass installation process was made a lot easier with the use of the Hydraulica 1500 vacuum lifter. It is designed specifically to lift curved and odd-shaped glass.

The glass lifter can be operated with all its 60 suction cups. Or suction cups can be isolated and switched off to allow the lifting of irregular glass sheets or panels.

Safety features that include powerful dual independent vacuum circuits and a low vacuum alert ensure that the load is held securely at all times.

The glass vacuum lifter can be controlled remotely, aiding lifting in complex spaces. Its powered rotation and tilt system ensure glass panels whatever their shape are controlled with precision.

Vacuum lifter hire

The Hydraulica 1500 Curved is just one of many machines in the Hird glass lifter hire range. They include the Hydraulica 1200 Curved, which has a safe maximum load of 1.2t.

Also on offer is the standard Hydraulica 1500 and 1200 for those boring (yawn) flat glass panels and the Hydraulica 3500 (Brutus) which can lift a whopping 3.5t.

In fact, Hird has glass lifting hire options for panels of just about every size and weight – starting with the Woods Powr-Grip MT2, which can lift up to 132kg, right up to the Hydraulica 3500.

Hird does not just supply the best glass lifting equipment. The company has exceptional expertise that is often put to use advising clients how lifts can be safely and productively completed whatever the challenge.

Glass vacuum lifter design

This is partly because here at Hird we also work with manufacturers in designing the next generation of glass lifting equipment, matching our knowledge of what the market needs, with their technical skills.

An example of this approach is the mighty Kappel Fin Lifter, a specialist vacuum lifter designed for carrying long glass panels weighing up to 1.8t.

Hird is also an end-to-end glass lifting service – supplying advanced Maeda tracked mini cranes to lift both the glass vacuum lifts and their loads – and all accessories required, including vacuum cups and slings.

Clients that need mini crane or glass vacuum lifter operator training also come to Hird – partly because we designed the popular LEEA glass vacuum lifter operator course.
