Product of the Month – Valla 25EL Pick and Carry Crane

Okay, we kind of made that figure up. But you get the point. So, why is our Product of the Month for October the little wonder that is the Valla 25EL pick and carry crane, when it was our first ever PoTM just a little more than three years ago?

The simple answer is that this particular mini crane now comes with an upgrade, inspired and designed right here at Hird, that is opening more eyes to the amazing performance capability of this lifting machine.

The Valla 25EL compact crane can now be hired (or bought) from Hird fitted with a secondary front wheel braking system. This additional functionality makes this crane even more attractive to our clients in the construction industry, in particular.

The reason will be self-evident to curtain wall and glass installers. They can see the productivity benefits of the Valla 25EL pick and carry crane. More on that a little later.

What they also wanted was the additional assurance that a front wheel braking system would give them, especially when working at height, and lifting up the sides of buildings. Now they have it.

Hird has worked closely with Valla Cranes to develop the new two-tonne electric brake for the Valla 25EL.

Fitted to both front wheels of the pick and carry crane, they operate independently from the standard rear wheel brake. They are activated automatically when the mini crane is stationary, and are switched off when it is being moved.

It gives operators three-wheel braking on the Valla 25EL for the first time, providing greater assurance of the stability of the lifting platform, especially when carrying out negative lifting duties.

In the event of a failure of the rear drive-wheel braking system – no matter how slim a chance that might be – the electric front wheel brakes provide the operator with a back-up system. The mini crane is as effective as ever, with additional safety measures built-in.

Our glass installation and curtain walling clients have already welcomed the development. They already value the machine’s safe working load (SWL) of 2,250kg, which is 250kg more than its nearest rivals on the market.

Meanwhile, it remains a lightweight mini crane that has the potential to deliver productivity advantages compared with mini spider cranes, which are often used for glass and curtain wall installation.

Pick and carry cranes like the Valla 25EL (and others in the Valla mini crane range) can carry their loads, and be more quickly repositioned. Unlike spider cranes, the Valla 25EL does not need outriggers, yet is just 950mm wide, making it highly effective in confined spaces.

Versatility is enhanced still further with the option of fitting the Valla 25EL mini crane with a 900mm adjustable fly jib, extending its boom length and tip height.

Now it can be hired with a front wheel electric braking system, it is becoming more popular than ever. What a good thing that Hird has just taken delivery of more of the machines.
