Given that digital technology is only going to get more important over the 2020s, it makes sense to start it by showcasing this mini crane’s amazing capabilities.
Digital screen for enhanced lifting
According to digital monitoring app RescueTime, people spend on average three hours and 15 minutes on their mobile phones every day.
That’s about seven and a half weeks a year. No wonder there are concerns that society is disappearing down a digital rabbit hole.
But with Hird’s Maeda MC285-3 spider crane, screen time is never wasted.
The screen displays information from the mini crane’s load moment indicator, enhancing operation control and safety and supporting the introduction of powerful new lifting features.
Bi-energy mini crane lifting
The Maeda MC285-3 spider crane is a much-enhanced version of our already very popular MC285 CRM-2 mini crane.
It has a maximum safe working load of 2.82t, a maximum tip height of 8.7m, and a maximum working radius of 8.205m.
Yet, in tracking mode, it is just 750mm wide so can be moved through a single doorway or transported in a small lift.
The mini crane delivers bi-energy power through a Euro V-approved diesel engine or via a fully enclosed fan-cooled 5.5kW 3-phase 380V electric motor.
The crane can be tracked to a lift location with the Yanmar diesel engine, then the lift can be carried out using the electric motor.
This is particularly useful for reducing a lift’s carbon footprint, for fume-free working, either indoors or near sensitive sites. Or where low-noise operation is required.
Confined space operation boost
The electric motor is detachable so can be removed if the weight of the crane needs to be reduced or if doing so supports tracking the crane in a confined space.
Other new features for the MC285-3 spider crane include variable outriggers. The function is controlled by the moment limiter and allows the operator to set the outriggers in different positions.
This is extremely useful where space is restricted preventing outriggers from being fully extended.
The load limiter is also fully programmable so the crane operator can set working limits, for example in terms of the slew angle to prevent any boom collision risk.
Hird’s MC285-3 spider crane can be operated with a wireless remote-control unit, so the crane operator can position themselves in the best location to view and carry out the lift safely and productively.
Negative lifting duty gamechanger
It can also be combined with a range of accessories, including a 850kg search hook, a 900kg auxiliary winch or a single fall hook supporting negative lift duty of up to 40.4m.
All these features point to the mini crane’s strong performance in a construction setting. The MC285-3 spider crane is ideal for steel erection and curtain wall and glazing installation.
The mini crane can provide flexible lifting where other types of cranes, such as tower cranes and mobile cranes cannot reach.
Fitted with an auxiliary winch, the MC285-3 spider crane can achieve negative lift duty of 900kg at 100m.
More options for crane lifting
Now, thanks to that digital screen and the enhanced load limiter, the new MC285-3 spider crane gives Hird customers even more options for safe and productive lifting.
Hird provides accredited crane operator training, lifting supervisor training and appointed person training. It can also provide experienced crane operators and carry out contract lifts, if required.
