Product of the Month – Maeda MC174 spider crane
It is the spider crane that, arguably, does more than any other spider crane to demonstrate what spider cranes are all about.
Our Product of the Month for July is the Maeda MC174. As mini cranes go, this is micro-mini. But not in terms of its lifting power.
That is because the Maeda MC174 spider crane is just 590mm wide – but it has a safe maximum load of 1.72 tonnes.
Skinny mini – super performance
Put another way, it is about the same width as an office chair, but it can lift the weight of a Porsche 911 sports car.
That is some sort of performance. For many Hird customers, it is vital as well, because the Maeda MC174 is ideal for lifting in confined spaces.
This is what spider cranes are very good at and why the Maeda MC174 proves that point better than most.
As cranes go, it is the perfect skinny mini. The machine can be driven through a standard doorway. Then it can be quickly set up, with stabilising legs extended, to get to work.
The Maeda MC174 is one of the narrowest spider cranes in the world, yet it comes with all the excellent features of its larger cousins, also available from Hird.
Excellent mini crane features
That includes rubber, low-load tracks, a programmable moment limiter for safe and efficient lifting, and a high-speed winch.
The Maeda MC174 can also be fitted with a searcher hook to support lifting where overhead space is limited or additional reach is required.
Despite its ultra-compact design, the mini crane has a maximum working radius of 5.17m, at which distance it has a SWL of 220kg.
Hird can supply the spider crane in two power modes – diesel or electric, so the Maeda MC174 is ideal for external or internal use.
Customers use the mini crane for a wide range of tasks. It can be combined with a vacuum lifter for glass installation, including the Wirth Oktopus GL-CC777600 glazing manipulator.
Machinery lifting and artwork installation
Perfectly-suited for operation in confined spaces, the crane is regularly used for factory maintenance and machinery lifting projects.
The spider crane’s low ground weight – it weighs 1,290kg – also makes it a favourite for internal facilities maintenance, including artwork installation.
Ease of use, and excellent safety features, include a tilt alarm and remote control, contributes to productivity and flexible use.
Customers wanting to take advantage of the Hird spider crane hire service can also benefit from our high quality mini crane training.
Hird also supplies a wide range of lifting accessories, including glass vacuum lifters, for use with the Maeda MC174.
For larger lifting projects, there are plenty of choices across the Maeda mini crane range, including the MC285 CRM2, MC305, MC405, and MC815.
