Hird boosts service sustainability with electric van investment

Hird-ID-Buzz-Electric-Van

Hird is rapidly growing a reputation for providing the best electric lifting equipment in the UK – and now it is preparing to do the same with the vehicles that get the equipment to customers.

The company is complementing its range of electric cranes, materials trollies and glazing robots by investing in electric vans.

The first Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric van has glided into Hird’s Hull HQ depot, signalling the start of a new era in transportation at the company.

As the UK and other countries phase out petrol and diesel vehicles to reduce carbon emissions, electric vans will become an increasingly important element of transport fleets.

All-electric advantages

Phil Hird said: “Electrification of vehicle fleets is going to take time, but will bring important benefits, in terms of eliminating carbon emissions and more efficient energy use.

“At Hird, that journey has already progressed rapidly in terms of the high-performance fully-electric equipment we offer for hire and sale, so we’re pleased to be adding to these key advantages on behalf of customers.”

The new lithium battery VW ID. Buzz van is being used by Hird’s maintenance engineers to pick up and deliver parts – and support hire service clients across the Hull depot’s service area.

All-electric transportation perfectly complements Hird’s extensive and growing range of all-electric lifting and materials transportation equipment, including:

electric-pick-and-carry-cranes

Electric pick and carry cranes – Hird offers the UK’s largest range of Valla mini cranes, including its new V cranes, which are remotely controlled with industry-leading compactness.

electric-spider-crane

Electric spider cranes – like the new Maeda MK30553C ECO knuckle boom crane, with a SWL of 2.98t and exceptional reach thanks to its articulating telescopic jib.

electric-spider-boom

Lithium electric spider booms – these include the Oil&Steel Octoplus 21, with a working height of 20.7m, and the Hinowa Lightlift 26.14, which has a working height of 25.7m.

eletric booms and scissors

Electric booms and scissors – Hird also has an extensive fleet of all-electric scissor lifts, with working heights from 6.3m (Genie GS-1432 M) to 23m (Dingli JCT2223DC), and electric boom lifts, with working heights from 10.9m (Genie Z30/20 HRJ) to 20m (Manitou 200ATJ-E).

Electric Glazing Robots

Electric glazing robots – with lifting capacities from 350kg to 1,00kg and the ability to lift curved glass through the use of an adaption kit, our Winlet glazing robots are world-beaters.

electric tracked carriers

Electric Tracked Carriers – electric battery powered tracked material transporters, for moving loads weighing up to 4,000kg across difficult terrain or over low load-bearing floors.

electric material trollies

Electric material trollies – Hird’s Winlet ErgoMover battery electric material trollies can be used to safely and quickly move and manipulate loads of up to 1,500kg across challenging work sites.

Hird also offers electric counterbalance lifting beams, with SWLs from 350kg to 8,000kg, and one of the UK’s largest hire fleets of battery electric glass vacuum lifters, with load capacities from 132kg to 8,000kg.

Through Hird Sales, the company is also the authorised UK and Ireland distributor for Valla mini cranes and all Winlet equipment, plus the UK distributor for Oil&Steel spider lifts and truck-mount platforms.
