Hird offers a must-have mini computer for a must-have mini crane

Mini cranes are the modern high tech wonders of the crane world – able to lift surprisingly heavy loads in the most challenging of conditions – while iPads are the must-have mobile accessory. It makes them a perfect fit.
That’s why Phil Hird, Managing Director of the mini crane, glass handling and powered access company says he expects strong interest from visitors to the Executive Hire Show at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, on 12th and 13th February, where Hird can be found on Stand B20.
He said:
- “We will have a Valla 25EL mini crane and a Winlet 350 glass handling robot at EHS 2014. We believe both are perfect for the plant hire industry, where rental companies are becoming increasingly aware of the potential from offering clients higher value, specialist equipment.”
A key driver of demand is the increasing number of rental customers, such as construction firms and larger FM service companies, which are seeking to streamline their supply chains by reducing the number of hire companies they deal with.
Hire companies are responding, says Phil Hird, by widening the range of equipment they can supply and making sure they can provide turnkey solutions for their clients’ service needs, so they are adding machines like mini cranes to their roster.
He added:
- “In the lifting sector, in particular, rental companies realise there is a gap in the market – with traditional crane hire companies concentrating on supplying larger machines – so they can offer mini cranes knowing there will be a demand from customers.”
Also, as the economic recovery gains momentum, and key sectors like the construction industry, gear up, they will require flexible access to increasing numbers of machines, such as mini cranes, glazing robots, vacuum lifters for glass installation, and powered access.
Over recent years, 1st tier contractors, especially, are demanding zero accidents and zero manual handling on work sites. This has resulted in new working practices, which now see machines like mini cranes, glazing robots and access platforms often being used together.
Key tasks these types of machine are commonly used for include window and glass installation, panel fitting and steel frame erection.
The Valla 25EL mini crane is an electric pick and carry crane that weighs just 1.95 tonnes but has a safe lifting weight of 2.250 tonnes. That means it is light enough to work on upper floors of large building projects, because it can be carried in large site lifts.
The Winlet 350 electric glazing robot’s unique design means it can carry and lift panels of 350kg, but is ultra-compact so can be operated in confined spaces and can install overhead, not something most glazing robots can do.
Other Winlet glass handling robots Hird offers is the Winlet 575 and Winlet 600, with lifting capacities up to 600kg.
Phil Hird said:
- “We would welcome representatives from hire companies to visit out stand where we can show them examples of these mini cranes and glazing robots and discuss their lifting and glass handling needs.
“If that leads to a firm order being placed, backed by a deposit, we will provide the hire company representative with a voucher they can redeem for their iPad.”
