Hird adds bespoke fin lifter to glass lifting hire fleet

Hird adds bespoke fin lifter to glass lifting hire fleet

Hird has added a new fin lifter to its glass lifting hire fleet to stay fully in step with innovations in the structural use of glass in building design.

The new adjustable fin lifter is our latest response to continuing trend of glass being used as a load-bearing structural component in buildings.

Our new fin lifter, co-designed by Hird and built especially for us by Kappel, can be used as an in-line glass lifter with eight vacuum cups.

With its two extension arms fitted, the fin lifter can be extended to an impressive nine metres in length, with a maximum capacity of 1,800kg.fin-lifter-full-width-product_of_the_month

Fin lifter adds value at Bloomberg London

The vacuum lifter has been put through its paces installing large glass panels on the Bloomberg London building – the new European HQ in the City of London for Bloomberg LP, the global leader in financial information.

The design of the fin lifter was ideal for the elongated panels being installed on the building, one of two in the Bloomberg London complex currently under construction.

Demand for specialist vacuum lifters, like the new Hird fin lifter, will grow as glass is used in increasingly imaginative ways by architects and glazing technology develops.

Specialist design – specialist glass lifters

Glass fins, or mullions, are panels of glass, often elongated, designed to provide structural strength of buildings.

The development of super-tough architectural glass and sophisticated glass jointing systems is making the use of such glass fins increasingly viable.

Hird’s fin lifter is designed to offer perfect control of glass mullion panels as they are lifted into position.

Precision in manipulation of glazing panels is essential, as the placement of glass fins has to be sub-millimetre perfect.

The fin lifter provides 210 degree lockable rotation, and has remote tilting from vertical to horizontal positions.

Latest safety features for confident glass handling

Complete confidence in the safety of the machine is provided by new 4-circuit technology, with four vacuum reserve tanks, and four non-return valves.

There is also an audio-visual low vacuum alert. It also has a 12v rechargeable battery with integral 110v or 240v charger and battery energy gauge.

The fin lifter can be easily transported to and from the glass installation site on a wheeled stand.

Fin lifter and mini crane hire options

The fin lifter is one of the newest additions to Hird’s glass lifter hire fleet, which has the most comprehensive range of glass lifters in the UK.

Hird is able to offer a complete specialist lifting hire package, with fin lifter hire combined with mini crane hire, either a pick and carry crane or a spider crane, to complete any glass lifting task.

The new fin lifter is available for hire nationally, along with a preferred mini crane hire option, through Hird’s three regional operational centres.
