  • Hydraulic fly jib

All Hird’s V Range mini cranes have hydraulic fly jibs. This gives them additional reach and working heights, significantly increasing their working envelopes and flexibility.

For example, having fly jib supports lifting in spaces where headroom is limited, or where obstacles limit space around the load, so the crane has to be located further away.

  • Front Stabiliser

With the front Stabliser deployed, the V210R can deliver its maximum SWL of 21t. On wheels only, it can lift up to 20t. It can also be fitted with a forklift attachment (SWL: 10t), a hook block or a winch.

  • Sit-in Cab or Wireless Remote Control

Hird’s growing fleet of Valla pick and carry cranes have sit-in cabs or fully wireless remotely controlled. V cranes with cabs, like this 21t Valla V210R and the 18t Valla V180RC can also be operated via remote control.

The fully remote controlled Valla V cranes in the Hird hire fleet (like the Valla V36R, the Valla V46R, the Valla V60R and the Valla V80R) are even more compact, especially in terms of reduced height.

  • Latest safety features

All our Valla V mini cranes have advanced, intuitive and easy-to-use digital operating systems with built-in features that enhance safety and allow precision control of all lifts.

This includes being fitted with the latest 3B6 Cobo safe load monitoring systems than ensure the operative always has all the data they need to control every lift and ensure it is completed smoothly, optimally and safely.

  • Improved manoeuvrability

A key feature of all Hird’s Valla V pick and carry cranes is their articulating rear axle, which allows the crane to turn (its equivalent of slewing) in a very small space.

Combined with the cranes’ exceptional compactness, this makes all our V cranes among the most manoeuvrable small industrial cranes in the world. When millimetres can be the difference in very constrained space, this is a major advantage.

  • Hook

Rigging chains or nylon strops are attached to the mini crane’s hook. This hook has a safety catch to ensure the rigging load cannot slip.

  • Non-marking tyres

Mini cranes can be fitted with non-marking tyres, as this one is. These are ideal for working inside buildings and clean environments. The tyres are solid, but are designed to flex under load, increasing the surface area in contact with the ground.

This maximises the mini crane’s stability.

  • Safe working load + load chart

Every mini crane must carry two clearly-visible signs. One gives its maximum safe working load (SWL). The other displays its load chart. A load chart provides data that defines each mini crane’s capabilities.

The data can be used to calculate safe lifting capacities, depending on the distance the crane is from the load and the angle of the boom. The information given by these signs are used by the operator to ensure the mini crane is always set up to carry out a safe lift.

All cranes with a SWL over 1,000kg must be fitted with a LMI (Load Moment Indicator) or SLI (Safe Load Indicator). At 95% of the SWL, an amber warning light comes on, to alert the operator. At about 105% of SWL, a red warning light is activated. At this point, the mini crane’s function is automatically restricted.

When this happens, the mini crane can only be operated in a way that brings the load back into radius, or lowers it off.

Anatomy of a Modern Generation Mini Crane

The performance of Valla V Range pick and carry cranes defines what is possible with a modern mobile industrial crane, with multiple innovations that ensure Valla remains a global leader in lifting.

They have been designed to be more powerful, more flexible, more productive, safer and more sustainable than ever before. Hird’s latest Anatomy Of feature allows you to find out how all that is achieved.

Ultra-compact design

Most industrial pick and carry cranes are designed to be compact to carry out lifts in the most confined and cluttered environments. But mini cranes in our Valla V Range take this to a new level.

For example, this Valla V210RC can lift up to 21 tonnes. At just 4490mm long, it’s shorter than an Audi A4, and just 1980mm wide. The mini crane’s footprint is also 14% smaller than a Valla 180ES, which can lift 3t less.

Valla V cranes also need less headroom. Taking this Valla V210RC as an example again, when stowed it is just 2000mm high, the same height as a conventional Valla 50E, which lifts up to 5t.

Smaller carbon footprint

All Hird’s Valla V mini cranes are battery electric powered. They generate no emissions and are nearly silent. It means they are ideal for working in clean environments and in safety critical settings, where noise could be hazardous.

Advanced batteries and efficient direct drive motors allow the cranes to work for long shifts and support rapid charging. Their efficiency also contributes to the cranes having smaller carbon footprints than standard mini cranes.

Indoor and outdoor lifting

Valla V cranes are more capable of carrying lifts in both indoor and outdoor spaces than ever before. All Hird’s Valla V cranes are fitted with non-marking tyres. Also, as battery electric cranes, they are fume-free and nearly silent.

This makes them particularly suited to indoor-outdoor tasks. For example, working inside aircraft hangars and on airport aprons, or moving equipment into clean factory or commercial environments, like office buildings or shopping centres.
