Tandem mini crane lift supports pharma tank installation

A Hird machinery moving team has helped a pharmaceutical company set up a new production facility with a tandem lift involving two pick and carry cranes.

The tanks and production vessels needed to be moved into the production building through a very narrow doorway, making the lift, carried out in Hull, East Yorkshire, particularly challenging.

Hird used a Valla 90E pick and carry crane and a Valla 35E pick and carry crane to carry out a series of eight tandem lifts. Six further single-crane lifts were carried out to complete the production tank installation.

“There was little more than 100 millimetres of extra space either side of the largest vessels. With a tandem lift, we could turn loads on their sides to accommodate the height of the door.”

Tandem lifts are also safer when setting up tanks and machinery. While one crane lifts the load, the other is used to hold the base steady.

This reduces the risk of the load slipping as it comes into the vertical position.

The Valla 90E pick and carry crane has a maximum safe working load of 9t. It has a maximum tip height of 8m, at which point it can lift 2.8t. Its maximum radius is 5.5m, with a SWL of 1.9t.

With a width of just 1735mm, the sit-in pick and carry crane is ideal for lifting duties in confined space.

Like the Valla 90E, the Valla 35E is an electric sit-in industrial mini crane, with non-marking tyres. This makes it ideal for lifting in indoor environments and particularly in clean environments like pharmaceutical production facilities.

The Valla 35E crane has a SWL of 3.5t, a maximum tip height of 6.7m (SWL of 500kg), a maximum radius of 4.8m (SWL of 400kg), and a width of 1380mm.
