Refining giant selects Valla again for mini crane maintenance fleet

A true test of a product’s excellence must be when customers come back time and again to buy it or hire it – and that is very much the case for Valla mini cranes.

Oil refining giant Essar has just taken delivery of its largest ever Valla pick and carry compact crane.

The company has been using Valla mini cranes for more than 20 years, so fully appreciates the quality of the machines.

The new Manitex Valla 90D pick and carry crane will be used for a range of maintenance tasks at Essar’s Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

Mini cranes for maintenance

Hird Sales and After-sales Manager Carl Cooper said: “Because of the work they do, Essar sets the highest standards for machinery and plant maintenance.

“Having the right mini cranes to carry out the wide range of lifting tasks required on such a large and complex site is a key part of the quality standards they set.

“We are delighted that Valla continues to be the pick and carry crane of choice for Essar. We’re providing all the support they need to maintain their mini crane fleet in excellent order.”

Oil refining and fuel production are continuous production processes, so Essar needs to be confident of the reliability of their lifting equipment. Valla pick and carry cranes deliver on that score, said Carl Cooper.

Pick and carry crane benefits

The new Valla 90D industrial mini crane has a maximum safe working limit (SWL) of 9 tonnes. It has a maximum tip height of 8 metres, at which point in can lift 2.8 tonnes. It also has a maximum radius of 5.5 metres.

The diesel-powered pick and carry crane is designed specifically for industrial lifting operations. Its compact crane design allows it to carry out lifts in confined spaces.

Its articulated rear axle powered steering unit allows 140-degree steering making the Valla one of the most manoeuvrable industrial cranes on the market.

The Valla 90D pick and carry crane is fitted with a COBO 3B6 digital load monitoring system as standard to support optimum safe lifting performance.

It is one of a fleet of Manitex Valla mini cranes being operated at the Stanlow refinery. Others include a Valla 75D pick and carry crane, with a SWL of 7.5 tonnes, a Valla 50D mini crane, with a SWL of 5 tonnes, and a Valla 20 mini crane, with a SWL of 2 tonnes.

Mini crane sustainability

The Valla 75D mini crane has just been fully refurbished by Hird. The longevity and ability to upgrade Valla cranes is a key benefit for companies like Essar, which want to maximise the sustainability of their operations.

Hird can supply Valla mini cranes for hire and for sale nationally via its three regionally operational hubs.

Hird also has an excellent crane and lifting support service, with a mobile engineering team that can visit client depots or worksites to service and repair machines in the field to reduce down-time.
