Product of the Month – Valla V36R pick and carry crane

The Valla V36R pick and carry crane is Hird’s Product of the Month for August because it perfectly illustrates just how compact these amazing machines now are.

Hird’s Valla V Series range of mini cranes is wowing lifting professionals because they set new standards in terms of lifting power, safety and flexibility.

Size always counts for pick and carry cranes. For Valla V Series pick and carry cranes, that means being impressively small for the size and weight of the loads they can lift and carry.

Extremely narrow crane

So, let’s take a look at the Valla V36R mini crane. It has a maximum safe working load of 3.6t, a maximum working height of 7.5m (SWL: 1.75t), and a maximum working radius of 4.7m (SWL: 0.45t).

However, it is just 900mm wide – which is ridiculously narrow for such a powerful crane. The mini crane’s chassis is 2466mm long and is just 1570mm high.

To put that in context, the battery electric Valla V36R pick and carry crane is about the same length as the UK’s smallest battery electric car, the Citroen Ami.

However, it is just shy of half a metre narrower than the Ami.

Given that the Ami weighs just 485kg, the Valla V36R could lift 7.4 of them. They would, however, have to be squished together to hang neatly under the hook. A small price to pay, some car fans might say.

Some might also say, the Valla V36R mini crane is prettier than the Citroen Ami. Okay, let’s just say it – it is prettier than the Ami.

Lifting close to the load

In fact, Hird’s Valla V Series cranes – we have the biggest Valla V Series crane hire fleet in Europe – all look like they mean business with a big dollop of Italian flair.

And the Ami’s USP of being able to park in the smallest space possible would be redundant. The Valla V36R could just lift a car out of the way to create a parking space.

All this means that the Valla V36R is the perfect mini crane for lifting in very constrained spaces, for example in factories, tunnels, chambers and shafts.

It can be moved much closer to the load than other cranes, which means the lift is easier to control. The Valla V36R can also move the load more easily to where it needs to be, or out of the way to allow maintenance to be carried out.

Drive and lifting functions are controlled with a wireless remote control unit. This allows the operative to stand in the optimum place to carry out the lift safely and productively every time.

The Valla V36R, like all Hird’s Valla V cranes, can be fitted with a hydraulic fly jib to extend the radius and maximum working height.

In particular, this assists with lifting where space is constrained above the load, or where objects in front of the load require the crane to stand further away.

Paired with a range of attachments

With the fly jib attached, the crane’s maximum radius extends to 5.8m (SWL: 250kg) and a maximum working height of 8.7m (SWL: 450kg).

The mini crane also has two jib head positions and can be paired with an electric winch. It can also be used for glass lifting, combined with many of Hird’s glass vacuum lifters or cladding vacuum lifters.

As with all Valla pick and carry cranes, it is also fitted with an advanced 3B6 load monitoring system, which assists the operator in making sure lifts are safe and sustainable.

Thanks to its non-marking tyres, the Valla V36R is perfect for lifting indoors or outdoors – or both together, to carry out maintenance tasks that require indoor/outdoor working, such as in aviation environments.

As a battery electric pick and carry crane, with long-lasting power and a fast-charging facility when needed, it is also fume-free and creates an operational carbon footprint just as small as its size.

Impressive V Series range

The Valla V36R is one of a growing family of V Series cranes available for hire from Hird. In fact it is currently the smallest Valla V Series mini crane in our fleet.

A mid-range choice might be the Valla V80R, with a maximum SWL of 8t, or the new Valla V130RX. It has a SWL of 13t and an extending chassis for lifting in particularly tight spots.

In top spot, in terms of SWL, is the Valla V210RC – the C stands for cab, because it has a cab – which can lift 21t, assisted by a lifting bar, and 20t free on wheels.

So, if the Valla V36R was a small car what one would it be? Well, as an Italian mini crane, what about the Fiat 500e, which is attracting 5-star reviews for performance and style.

Or the brand new Renault 5 E-Tech. It’s the hottest electric mini on the block right now. Style, performance and best in class. That’s Hird’s Valla V36R pick and carry crane, alright.
