Product of the Month – Valla V60R pick and carry crane

Product of the Month – Valla V60R pick and carry crane

It is often considered not much fun to be a piggy in the middle – unless the piggy is Hird’s Valla V60R pick and carry crane.

In terms of progression of lifting capacities, our first Product of the Month for 2026 sits right in the middle of our Valla mini crane hire range.

Yet there is nothing average, middle of the road or stuck in the middle about this incredibly impressive compact industrial crane.

Zero emissions for low carbon lifting

The Valla V60R has a maximum safe working load (SWL) of 6 tonnes, with a maximum working height of 7.8m (SWL: 4.1 tonnes) and a maximum working radius of 4.9m (SWL: 900kg).

With the mini crane’s fly jib deployed, the maximum SWL is 2 tonnes, while its working height stretches to 9.1m (SWL: 1 tonne) and its maximum radius reaches 6.3m (SWL: 600kg).

The Valla V60R is one of Hird’s V-Series Valla cranes. All the ‘V cranes’ are battery electric powered, with advanced power systems that provide long-lasting, consistent operation.

This also means the mini cranes generate zero-emissions at work sites, providing both our hire customers and their clients with low carbon lifting duties.

All Valla-Series cranes, now part of the Tadano stable of cranes and lifting equipment, are also designed to significantly extend what an industrial pick and carry crane is capable of achieving.

Industry-leading compactness

Place the Valla V60R alongside a conventional free-on-wheels mini crane with the same basic SWL capabilities, and the conventional crane will be noticeably larger. It will not look as sleek, either.

The way Valla has crammed so much capability into such compact chassis is what makes these mini cranes world-beaters.

For example, the Valla V60R is just 1180mm wide, 3444mm long and 1681mm high, allowing an operator to move it through narrow openings and manoeuvre it in very congested space.

This industry-leading compactness is made possible, in part, because the crane does not have a cab. All movement and lifting functions are operated with a wireless handheld control unit.

The crane operator can always position themselves in the best location when moving the crane and then controlling the crane during the lift.

This optimises productivity, with lifts carried out with smaller teams and in greater safety.

Flexible indoor-outdoor crane lifting

In its standard fixed hook set-up, the Valla V60R pick and carry crane can be operated with two head positions, which is helpful when lifting in particularly restricted spaces.

Central to the mini crane’s flexibility is its sophisticated digital load monitoring system, with a large full-colour screen. It makes it easier to set up and operate the crane in non-standard configurations.

This flexibility is enhances still further by the crane being fitted with non-marking tyres.

Combined with its fume-free electric power, this allows the Valla V60R to be operated both indoors, in clean environments (in food factories, for example), and outdoors.

Equally, the pick and carry crane can be used to operate seamlessly between both, carrying equipment into buildings or out of them, as the need arises.

Wide range of crane lifting tasks

The smallest Valla V-Series crane in Hird’s mini crane hire fleet is the Valla V36R, which has a maximum SWL or 3.6 tonnes (the smallest Valla crane in the fleet is the Valla 20E TRX, with a 2-tonne SWL).

The largest V-Series mini crane is the Valla V210RC, which has a maximum SWL of 21 tonnes, a maximum working height of 12.5m (SWL: 11.2 tonnes) and a maximum radius of 8.1m (SWL: 5.1 tonnes).

Even with this capacity, the Valla V210RC – the C denotes that the crane has a cab, though can also be operated remotely – is just 1980mm wide and 2000mm tall.

Valla V-Series cranes, the Valla V60R included, can be used for a wide range of lifting tasks, including factory machinery moving, dismantling and installation.

Equally, they can be used for a range of construction or maintenance tasks, including steel erection, stair and escalator installation, glass lifting (combined with Hird’s glass vacuum lifters), aviation maintenance, and artwork installation.

All Valla cranes can be supplied as hire only, with or without a qualified crane operator, or within a contract lifting service package.

Hird also provides a comprehensive crane operator training service. This includes a CPCS-accredited A66 compact crane (B mobile industrial) training course.

Hird also runs a range of Valla Cranes training courses. These one-day courses provides instruction on the operation of specific Valla pick and carry cranes.

Successful candidates are awarded a certificate and photo-ID card which is valid for five years, after which refresher training is needed to renew the certification.
