Product of the Month – Oil&Steel Scorpion 2013 truck mounted platform

It can be a battle out there – and you may need an aerial platform that will keep you moving forward.

Which is why our Product of the Month for May is the Oil&Steel Scorpion 2013 truck mount.

One of the first skills a soldier learns is to skirmish. Dash, take cover, assess the situation, make another dash to a fresh piece of cover. Down. Check. Dash. Repeat.

The aim is keep going forward, as quickly as possible to achieve the objective while controlling exposure to risk. Eventually, the enemy gets the message and retreats. Or so you hope.

Multiple locations

And that’s where Hird’s new Oil&Steel Scorpion 2013 truck mounted platforms come into their own.

They are the working at height equivalent of the skirmishing infantry soldier.

An operator can drive the truck mount to a location, quickly raise the basket to carry out some work, then pack up and move to the next location and repeat. As many times as necessary.

And all done under full control and in complete safety.

The Oil&Steel Scorpion 2013 truck mount platform is ideal for working at height in multiple locations across a large area or region.

Design principles

Hird is the UK and Ireland distributor for Italian manufacturer Oil&Steel, so has its excellent truck mounted platforms available for hire or sale.

Like all Oil&Steel truck mounts, the Scorpion 2013 follows some clear design principles:

  • Robust build for excellent reliability
  • Ease of use, intuitive controls aid platform operation
  • Industry-leading safety features
  • High levels of stability for confident height working
  • Fast set up and stow for better productivity

The truck mount has a telescopic boom that delivers a maximum working height of 19.9m and a maximum working outreach of a whopping 12.3m.

Its maximum boom capacity is a generous 250kg, allowing two personnel to work at height a good amount of equipment and materials.

While this maximum capacity is restricted, it is only to 19.5m, so little by way of performance is lost. At 1400mm long and 700mm wide, the basket is also nice and roomy.

Car licence

Another key benefit the way the Scorpion 2013 is based on an IVECO 3.5t van chassis, so can be driven by an operator on a standard UK car licence, making it easy to hire truck mounted platform.

As a very recent edition to the fleet, the Scorpion 2013 also has the latest fuel efficient and low emission diesel engine, so while doing all that working at height skirmishing, fuel costs and emissions are under control.
