Product of the Month – materials and equipment tracked carriers

Product of the Month – materials and equipment tracked carriers

In some ways, the more developed our country becomes, the more we have to push back the boundaries of working in the wild.

That is just why our Product of the Month for November is very popular. It is proving ideal for transporting telecommunications equipment across open land to isolated mast sites. It is a task that’s increasingly commonplace as digital capability is extended to all corners of the country.

Aconda Industrial Tracked Carriers are British-manufactured battery electric machines that can transport materials and equipment safely and efficiently over difficult terrain or low load-bearing surfaces.

They can do that both indoors and outdoors. For difficult terrain indoors, that can even mean stairs.

Materials moving in challenging spaces

The grippy, rubber tracks on our tracked materials carriers allow the machines to transport loads up flights of stairs, with no extra stair climbing accessories needed.

We have three versions of the tracked carriers in our materials and equipment moving hire fleet, which perfectly complement other machines we offer, including Winlet electric material trolleys.

Building contractors, telecommunication engineers and equipment installers are now among the many Hird customers using our tracked carriers to more safely transport materials in the most challenging environments, and with smaller teams.

Hird has added three tracked carriers to its materials moving hire fleet:

Confined space advantages

All three models have maintenance-free AGM batteries and highly-efficient direct drive AC motors, providing long battery life and consistent power delivery.

With no hydraulic system there is no risk of oil spills, which protects the environment and simplifies risk assessment and method statements for transporting materials and equipment in internal spaces.

Replacement of hydraulic systems with sealed power units, which protect against water and dust ingress, also enhances the tracked carriers’ reliability.

All three tracked carriers are operated by wireless remote control, with an LCD screen that gives clear information, including diagnostics feedback.

Proportional controls support:

  • Safe and smooth movement across the most difficult terrain.
  • Plus precise positioning to manoeuvre the carrier in confined spaces, which protects loads, and surrounding surfaces.

Hird’s tracked carriers can handle a maximum gradient of 45 degrees, which is where their stair climbing ability comes into play.

They can also deal with side slopes of up to 30 degrees. Gradient sensors ensure the operator can keep the tracked carrier, its load and work teams  safe at all times.

The TC-1250 tracked carrier can be hired from Hird with a fifth wheel and 1000kg dolly for transporting longer loads, like steel beams. In this set up, the maximum load is increased to 2250kg.

Many equipment moving tasks

Hird materials and machinery moving customers have been impressed with the productivity and safety advantages of the Aconda tracked carriers.

They allow smaller teams to more easily load and unload materials, then move them significant distances to worksites while eliminating almost all manual handling.

Loads that can be carried include bricks and blocks, packs of tiles, steel and wooden, pipes, stacks of plasterboard and other sheeted materials, with multiple tie points for safety straps.

Hird’s tracked carriers allow equipment and machinery to be moved to where they need to be used or installed. These can be signs, solar panels, ground source heat pumps, and lighting units.

They are also ideal for working across low-load bearing structures, both indoors and outdoors.

In this way, they provide additional protection for sensitive floors, especially when combined with floor protection mats, as well as patio areas around restaurants and shops.

Moving alternative – Winlet electric trolleys

An alterative to tracked carriers is to use our Winlet ErgoMover wheeled electric trolleys.

The Winlet ErgoMover Manipulator has a maximum SWL of 1,100kg, and can lift loads to a near vertical position, or pick them up and set them down on trestles.

Our Winlet ErgoMover Lift and Go electric materials trolley has SWL of 1,500kg. Its platform has powered rotation for to help load on and lift off materials. It also has the same hydraulic lifting table as the ErgoMover Manipulator.
