Product of the Month – Maeda MK3053C ECO spider crane
It’s the big thing right now in health and fitness – Yoga. And flexing and stretching is also a big thing in crane design.
Which is why our Product of the Month for February is the MK3053C ECO – Maeda’s latest knuckle boom spider crane.
It’s a crane with, arguably, strong yogic credentials, and it combines game-changing lifting capabilities with new standards in sustainability and safety.
Crane lifting superpower
The stretching and flexing comes from its knuckle boom design.
The Maeda MK3053C ECO mini crane combines a five-section super-strong main boom with a three-section telescoping negative-angle jib.
It means the spider crane has a particular superpower that allows it to more-easily reach up and over obstacles to lift or lower its loads.
Two of the first jobs the mini crane went on after it was delivered in summer 2024 demonstrated this capability perfectly.
Lifting sleight of hand
During steel erection duties at a large events arena in the north of England, the crane’s knuckle boom design allowed a load to be lifted over a safety rail on a mezzanine deck.
A few days later, the crane’s jib was able to reach right in through a window to lift a room-full of unwanted pianos out of a music school.
Hird’s Maeda MK3053C ECO mini crane has been performing these crane lifting sleights of hand on a regular basis ever since.
Much to the pleasure and relief of our customers who might otherwise have to consider more complicated and costly methods to complete the lifts safely.
Constrained space lifting
The Maeda MK3053CB ECO has a 2.98t maximum safe working load (at 1.8m), plus a maximum lifting height of 16.95m and a maximum working radius of 14.3m.
Up to 4.9m of that radius is provided by the jib, which can be hydraulically articulated to lift loads in a range of constrained spaces, including under low ceilings or structures.
The jib can also be removed, if necessary, in a suitably ingenious way, without the need for tools.
Instead, the outriggers are used to lower the jib to the ground, allowing it to be then wheeled away on castors.
Hird’s Maeda MK3053CB ECO has white, non-marking tracks so it could be used flexibly indoors and outdoors.
Its proportional controls are operated via a wireless remote control unit, allowing the operator to be positioned in the best location to manage the lift.
Automatic levelling and stow
The control unit also has a 7-inch full colour digital screen providing live monitoring data.
The Maeda MK3053CB ECO has stepless variable outriggers, making it easier to carry out lifts in tight or complicated spaces.
An onboard computer sets safe lifting limits based on how the outriggers are positioned.
In unconstrained conditions, the outriggers can be automatically deployed, and the mini crane set up and levelled, for lifting with the touch of one button, and stowed automatically in the same way.
At just 780mm wide and 1945mm high when stowed for tracking, the mini crane can be moved through most single doorways.
Or, the spider crane’s tracks can be widened to 1050mm to provide additional stability when tracking across uneven ground.
Power for the Maeda MK3053CB ECO is stored in a lithium battery pack that can be fully-charged in just five hours and can be topped up while the crane is being used.
Safer and more productive
All this smart functionality and supreme capability can be applied simply. The knuckle boom crane does more than other mini cranes.
But it shares a trait evident in all Maeda cranes in being easy and intuitive to operate, with wonderfully sensitive and precise controls that make lifting safer and more productive.
Hird is proud to have taken the first Maeda MK3053C ECO spider crane off the production line. Our crane number K0001 was also the first in the world to complete a commercial lift.
It joins a growing list if electric Maeda spider cranes in the Hird mini crane hire fleet – with quiet operation and zero emissions for low carbon footprint lifting.
No yoga mat required – just four outrigger pads.
