Product of the month – Genie Z30/20 NRJ electric boom
Cherry pickers are designed to be flexible – but some cherry pickers are just more flexible than others, making them especially useful for a wider range job.
That’s definitely the case for our Product of the Month for May – the Genie Z30/20 NRJ electric boom lift: the N stands for Narrow and the RJ for Rotating Jib. More on those terms in a moment.
The platform defines Hird’s access hire purpose, to provide customers with MEWPs that don’t just do a job, but do it so well, that they make a transformational impact on outcomes.
Powerful, compact and precise
The Genie Z-30/20 NRJ cherry picker stands out in a highly competitive field because of performance characteristics that make it particularly special:
- A compact design and narrow body that’s ideal for working in confined spaces.
- Excellent up and over reach for working at height with precision in congested environments.
- Fully-electric operation, with direct drive power, that supports indoor and outdoor working, maximising utilisation.
- Eliminates need for costly diesel fuel, noise, fumes and spill risks.
- A rotating fly-jib that allows more precise positioning of the basket with fewer platform movements, saving time and optimising safety.
- Zero tail swing and zero front arm swing with the boom stowed and in elevated set-ups.
Maximising utilisation rates
The Genie Z-30/20 NRJ articulating cherry picker also sits in a sweet spot between smaller, indoor access platforms and larger boom lifts.
This often allows our MEWP hire customers to hire one of our Genie Z-30/20 platforms to do multiple jobs across a site, when other options might require two or even more platforms.
This improves their working at height efficiency, eliminates unnecessary platform deliveries and collections and maximises productivity, at a time when hitting tight deadlines is more important than ever.

Ideal platform across many locations
Hird’s fleet of Genie Z-30/20 NRJ platforms also have an exceptionally small turning radius (1650mm internal and 3230mm external), further enhancing performance in awkward spaces.
It is why the platform is in strong demand for working:
- In narrow aisle warehouses
- Around machinery in factories
- On busy site refurbishment projects
- On urgent airport maintenance
The Genie Z-30/20 NRJ is ideal for:
- Mechanical and electrical installation and maintenance
- HVAC projects
- Facilities maintenance
- Industrial maintenance
- Internal and external fit-outs
- Glazing and cladding work
As a direct drive electric cherry picker, the Genie Z-30/20 NRJ also delivers a range of sustainability and operational advantages.
- The efficiency of its direct drive motors means the platform can be put to work for long shifts.
- Fast-charging reduces downtime, maximising utilisation.
- Instant power delivery supports precise machine, boom and basket positioning.
- Direct drive motors improves reliability by eliminating dust and water ingress, and reduces the risk of hydraulic oil spills.
Low-noise and sustainable working at height
As a low-noise electric cherry picker, the Genie Z-30/20 NRJ also boost productivity, especially in low noise zones and at times when noise would be disruptive, for example for emergency maintenance at night.
This makes the access platforms ideal for working in and around:
- Schools.
- Hospitals.
- Care homes.
- Entertainment venues.
- Shopping centres.
- Housing estates and high-rise homes.
Of course, the platform also supports commitments made by Hird customers to reduce their carbon footprints – and their customers’, contributing to supply chain Net Zero targets.
The Genie Z-30/20 NRJ is just one of a number of powerful electric articulating electric cherry pickers in the Hird access platform hire fleet.
Others include the Genie Z45 DC, which has a maximum working height of 15.9m. The Genie Z34/22 N, another narrow body cherry picker has a maximum working height of 12.5m.
Meanwhile, Hird’s Manitou 200ATJ-E provides all-electric rough-terrain working at height with a maximum working height of 20m.
Hird can provide mobile boom (3b) IPAF training for operatives who need to use the Genie Z-30/20 NRJ, either at one of our three IPAF training centres, or at customer sites, if they are suitable.
