Product of the Month – Genie Z-45 DC Rough Terrain Boom Lift

Product of the Month – Genie Z-45 DC Rough Terrain Boom Lift

January is the perfect moment for our Product of the Month, the Genie Z-45 DC rough terrain electric boom lift.

Because January, as we know, is all about making New Year’s resolutions (or not) and changing things for the better.

So what better time to consider hiring an electric rough terrain cherry picker instead of a diesel one?

We should say, straight away, that the scepticism about using electric cherry pickers for tasks where, until recently, diesel power was king, is fast falling away.

But old habits do die hard. So, there is no harm in continuing to highlight the virtues of electric platforms in our MEWP hire fleet like the Genie Z-45 DC RT boom lift.

That’s because, in important ways, Hird’s Genie Z-45 DC RT boom lift is actually better than diesel alternatives. More on that in a moment.

All-terrain excellence

The Genie Z-45 DC is an articulating cherry picker with a maximum working height of 15.9m, maximum outreach of 7.65m and a platform capacity of 227kg.

The MEWP has a 1.52m articulating jib with 135° vertical rotation to accurately position operatives, using fully-proportional drive and lift controls.

It delivers excellent performance over rough ground, zero tail swing, and 45% gradeability, for an almost go-anywhere ability to get around difficult construction sites.

Here we come to the advantages of electric power for rough terrain boom lifts.

More power

Because it is electric powered, the Genie Z-45 DC has better performance over uneven and unstable terrain. The boom lift has independent AC drive motors on each oscillating axle.

This direct application of four-wheel drive offers more power to each wheel, optimising torque and speed, in a way diesel systems cannot match.

The boom lift’s very efficient advanced batteries will last for a full shift. As it has an onboard charger, it can then be charged overnight using an 110v or 240v power source, and will be fully-charged, ready to go in the morning.

Indoor and outdoor

The Genie Z-45 DC is a zero-emissions platform so is just as much at home working outdoors as it is on many indoor working at height tasks. This increasing utilisation on site, reduces the number of MEWPs needed, and reduces the cost and improves the efficiency of access platform hire.

Improved reliability

As an electric cherry picker, the Genie Z-45 DC has reliability and maintenance advantages. The AC motor systems are sealed units with fewer working parts, so are less likely to develop faults. With no engine oil and coolants, and no hydraulic oil in the drive system, there is less risk of leakage.

Reduced carbon

As it zero-emissions rough terrain boom lift, the Genie Z-45 DC reduces our client’s carbon footprints, contributing to their sustainability commitments, supporting working in inner city low-emission zones, and eliminating the need to store diesel fuel on site.

Low noise

It is also a low-noise boom lift, so allows work teams to communicate more effectively, increasing safety and productivity, and is ideal for working on sensitive sites like hospitals, schools and care facilities.

4 laws of changing a habit

Hird is following the four laws of behaviour change to help customers consider new hiring habits and give the Genie Z-45 DC RT boom lift a go on their worksites.

Obvious – We’re explaining the clear (and obvious) advantages of electric outdoor cherry pickers and, given the growing popularity of the MEWPs, we believe we’re getting the message across.

Attractive – We’re making hiring the Genie Z-45 DC attractive with competitive hire rates and excellent support by our hire desk team.

Easy – Hird has always been obsessed with making access platform hire easy. So no change there. We make sure platforms are delivered quickly, at the right time and at the right place – and that we collect them in the same efficient way.

Satisfying – To change a habit, the new option needs to be satisfying to stick. And we are finding that is the case with the Genie Z-45 DC. Once customers hire it once, they want to hire it again. There is no going back.

January 2023 may well be the moment to change. It is not about getting rid of bad habits, just embracing better ones.
