Product of the Month – Genie S-60 FE
You know who your real pals are – the ones who’ll be first to offer help, and will still be there at the end, until a problem’s fully sorted.
It’s a definition that could easily apply to our last Product of the Month for 2022, the Genie S-60 FE telescopic cherry picker.
The Genie S-60 FE is the world’s first hybrid and lightweight rough terrain telescopic boom lift in the 20m working height class.
And we’re pleased to say Hird has been the first UK access rental specialist to take delivery of it.
Indoor and outdoor
The access platform can be put to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, in just about any conditions.
That means our powered access hire customers are quickly finding the Genie S-60 FE can be used from the start of a project, right through to the end of it.
For example, it’s perfect for steel erection. And it’s just as good at internal and external fit-out, depending on what’s needed on any given day.
Think of it as being the mucca who will help you with this year’s Christmas party.
They arrive in the afternoon to put up the balloons and bunting. And last thing at night, with everyone else gone, they’re up at ceiling height, checking a light fitting pinged by a rogue Champagne cork.
Sustainable advantage
That makes Hird’s Genie S-60 FE (the FE stands for Fuel and Electric, by the way) a hugely flexible, cost-effective, and sustainable boom lift.
It can be operated on its low-emission, low-noise Stage 5 diesel engine, which is also fitted with a particulate filter. In full hybrid mode, one tank of diesel will last for full week’s operation.
Or, it can be operated for a long shift on electric power only, thanks to its high-capacity batteries and highly efficient electric drive motors.
That means:
- One platform on site, where previously two or more would be needed.
- Fewer platform deliveries disrupting operations.
- Higher productivity and working flexibility.
- Lower hire costs.
- Lower running costs (especially with diesel prices staying high).
- Less space taken up by parked-up MEWPs.
- Low-noise out-door operation, so less nuisance for neighbours and improved site safety.
- A smaller carbon footprint.
Shrinking carbon footprint
The Genie S-60 FE gives our customers a straight stick boom lift with a best-in-class jib length.
It has a maximum working height of 20.6m, a maximum outreach of 12.3m and an unrestricted platform capacity of 300kg, enough to carry two operatives, with tools and materials.
It’s a response to increase demand on job sites for clean, quiet and versatile platforms that can be operated both indoors and outdoors, including over rough terrain.
The Genie S-60 FE’s computer-controlled intelligent operating system keeps its batteries charged and ready to work, assisted by regenerative braking and automatic engine stop and start.
It’s a feature that shrinks a work sites carbon footprint still further, reduces pollution, and all but eliminates down-time for plug-in charging.
Light weight design
The cherry picker’s four-wheel drive system and independently oscillating axles get to grips with the most challenging of terrain – providing 45% gradeability.
Yet it weighs a third less than comparable telescopic booms, making it ideal for operation across low load-bearing floors (indoors) or soft and loose ground (outdoors).
The Genie S-60 FE weighs 8,051kg and has a 1.83m jib with a 130° working range for precise positioning of the 2.44m-wide three-entry platform.
This is supported by the platform’s proportional controls and Genie’s Fast Mast system for faster raising and lowering of the boom.
Meanwhile, the sealed AC electric direct drive motors provide similar torque to hydraulic drive motors but use 30-40% less energy, contributing to the platform’s outstanding productivity.
The Genie S-60 FE sets the exemplar standard for the future development of cherry pickers.
It also provides Hird’s customers with excellent working at height support from the start of a project, right through to the end.
From balloon installation to cork impact inspection.
