Seamless transition at Hird as Carl retires and Jason steps up
Carl Norfolk has retired as the Hird director heading up the company’s crane lifting and machinery moving operation.
In a seamless move – in keeping with the smooth service delivered by Hird’s machine lifting and moving team – Jason Timmins has stepped up to become director in his place.
Carl, pictured below with his wife, Mandie, was appointed as a Hird director in 2012 and led the company’s contract lifting and machinery moving service through a decade of continuous growth.
Recognising talent when he saw it, Carl was responsible for appointing Jason when he joined Hird as technical manager in 2016. Jason went on to become the ideal candidate to take over the top job.
Sterling work
Hird Managing Director Phil Hird, pictured above, left, with Jason, said: “Carl has done sterling work for us, building our reputation for safe and effective lifting and machinery moving projects in many, often challenging, environments.
“His deep experience in crane lifting will be missed by colleagues here at Hird. His steady and determined approach has seen our lifting service go from strength to strength.
“Carl has done a great job of supporting Jason as the perfect protégé. While Jason, himself, has added his own dynamism and business skills to a role that make it clear that our lifting service is in very safe hands.”
Jason now heads up a growing team of highly skilled and experienced lifting operatives who work across the UK, supporting a growing portfolio of clients across many different sectors.
New opportunities
He said: “I have to thank Carl for his support since I joined Hird. He’s left our lifting service in a very healthy position. We’re extremely busy and have an excellent reputation for service and safety.
“I see opportunities now to build on Carl’s achievements with growth in a range of markets, including data centre installation, manufacturing, renewable energy installation and telecommunications.”
Hird operates its own modern 100t and 60t cranes, and also plans and implements contract lifts requiring any types and sizes of cranes across the UK.
It is also a national leader in carrying out machinery moving and installation using pick and carry mini cranes and tracked spider cranes, as well as using a wide range of material lifts where conditions require.
