Product of the Month – Haulotte Star 10 Personnel Boom
It was one of the most iconic TV adverts of the 1980s.
And our Product of the Month for July, the Haulotte Star 10 Personnel Boom, brought it to straight back to mind.
Remember the little tin alien explaining to his mates about how humans first peel and then smash a potato to make something edible? Well, there is the working at height version.
“First they get two sticks with lots of little sticks stuck in them.”
“He, he, he, he.”
“Then they prop them up against a pillar.”
“He, he, he, he, he!!!”
“Then they climb up them to work with only one of their hands!”
“HE, HE, HE, HE, HE!!!!!”
Thankfully, in many workplaces, the little tin alien no longer has a chance to get a cheap laugh.
In many circumstances, ladders have been banned. But there are still some people and businesses that still regularly use ladders to work at height.
The official accident statistics are not funny either. Health and Safety Executive figures show falls from height are the most common causes of death in the workplace.
Of all fatalities in 2017, 28% – 40 deaths – were caused by falls from height. Some of those will almost certainly involve people falling from ladders.
Over the last 20 years, new ways have been developed to work at low-level height, notably mobile scaffold systems.
However, these take up a lot of space, can be slow to erect, and are not easy to move around a worksite.
Which is where our Product of the Month for July, the Product of the Month comes into a play.
The Haulotte Star 10 personnel boom is one of the latest and most capable ways for low level working at height.
If you need to carry out maintenance in a shopping centre or carry out internal electrical and mechanical fit-outs, this machine could be the best option.
The Haulotte Star 10 provides a maximum working height of 10 metres. It also has a jib that gives three metres of outreach.
This is ideal for working over machinery or shelving – or, for example, out over a balustrade on a shopping centre mezzanine floor to change lighting or signage.
Also, the jib is both positive and negative, which means it can be lifted above the mast height or dropped down below it.
The spacious platform creates an excellent working environment, while a lifting capacity of 200kg means the Star 10 can accommodate an operator plus a good selection of tools and materials with ease.
The personnel mast is just 1000mm wide and has a tight turn radius, so it can be moved swiftly and surely into position in confined spaces.
A powerful but smooth progressive AC electric motor, simple controls, and Haulotte’s Activ’Screen onboard diagnostics system make the Star 10 very easy to use.
Safety features include a three-degree slope sensor and pot hole protection. An operating speed of 2.8 mph allows the personnel boom to get around the largest work spaces efficiently.
The Haulotte Star 10 personnel boom is designed for facilities management, building maintenance, internal building fit out, aviation maintenance, and a range of other applications.
Cue the jingle – we could say, ‘For low level access get the Haulotte Star 10’. It might not be quite so catchy.
But you get the point.
