Hird is finalist in Hull Daily Mail Business Awards
Mini crane, glass lifting and powered access hire company Hird has been selected as a finalist in the Hull Daily Mail Business Awards.
We have been chosen in the Business of the Year (Medium) category in the prestigious regional awards.
Hird Managing Director Phil Hird said: “This is exciting news for us. Being selected as a finalist is recognition of the hard work done by everyone in the Hird team.”
The award judges based their decisions on managerial and financial performance, evidence of business success, strategy development, service development, and staff training and support.
Hird will find out if it has won at a prestigious ceremony on Thursday, November 17 2016 at the Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel in Willerby.
Hird has grown significantly over the last two years, developing a reputation as one of the most dynamic and innovative lifting specialists in the UK.
This has included supplying glass vacuum lifters and mini cranes to support construction of many of the largest development projects in the UK, including the BBC White City development and the Bloomberg offices, both in London.
Hird is also the UK and Ireland authorised distributor for Valla mini cranes and Winlet glazing robots, both world leaders in specialist lifting.
The company works with a number of manufacturers to design and develop cutting edge lifting equipment, including the GML 800+ counterbalance floor crane, and the Kappel fin lifter.
Over the last 12 months, it has also been the UK’s largest customer for Maeda mini cranes, the world’s largest supplier of mini spider cranes.
The company’s success has seen it develop large and growing depots in Redhill, Surrey, to provide mini crane, glass lifting and powered access hire services to London and the south east, and in Doncaster, in South Yorkshire.
However, Hird is proud of its roots as a Hull-based company, with a large depot in English Street, says Phil Hird.
He added: “Hull is the headquarters of our operation, and we are growing our business across Yorkshire and the north of England. For example, our contract lifting and machinery moving operation is expanding fast.
“We have also greatly expanded our powered access hire fleet. The values we have nurtured over decades of doing business in Hull and Yorkshire, of great customer service, excellent value and a can-do spirit, continue to stand us in good stead.”
The business award judges are Victoria Jackson, Chair of business development organisation HullBID, Jan Brumby, Chief Executive of business support and networking organisation For Entrepreneurs Only, and Helen Roberts, HR Director of telecoms company KCOM.
