Maeda tracked pick and carry crane boosts lifting options

Hird has taken delivery of a new Maeda 4.9t crawler pick and carry crane to further expand the lifting capabilities the company can provide for its customers.

The Maeda CC985S-1 tracked mini crane has a maximum safe working load of 4.9 tonnes (at 2.1m) and can lift 200kg at its maximum radius of 14.67m.

With its almost zero tail swing, it is particularly useful for lifting in highly constrained spaces – for example machinery maintenance and moving, construction, demolition and refurbishment environments.

Customer demand

Hird Managing Director Phil Hird took delivery of the Maeda CC985S-1 mini crawler crane, along with the company’s fifth Maeda MC285-3 all-electric spider crane.

He said: “We’re responding to customer demand for highly compact pick and carry cranes that can operate in the most challenging environments, both in terms of complex space and ground conditions.

“We have no doubt that the Maeda CC985S-1 mini crane will be an instant hit with clients across a wide range of sectors, including construction, demolition and industrial engineering.

“We already have a large fleet of Maeda spider cranes which have proved to combine excellent performance, reliability and safety, all very much appreciated by our fleet with these Maeda pick and carry cranes.”

Compact dimensions

The Maeda CC985S-1 tracked mini crane’s credentials for working in constrained space reflect its compact dimensions, being just 5190mm long, 2320mm wide and 2730mm high.

It has a maximum lifting height of 16.5m which increases to 20.2m by using the optional fly jib. Lifting is also supported with a powerful two-speed winch with a hydraulic disc brake.

The CC985S-1 pick and carry crane has a maximum negative lifting duty of 25m with four falls and 50m with two falls.

The mini crane, which has rubber tracks, has a well-protected operator’s cab with a large window in the roof to allow easy viewing of the lift and a rear view camera for safe tracking and positioning.

Electric cranes

The diesel-powered crane, which weighs 9,450kg, has a programmable moment limiter and a slew restriction device. Lifting is controlled via a full-colour digital display screen.

Hird has expanded its fleet of electric Maeda tracked spider cranes over the last 12 months. The electric Maeda MC285-3 has a maximum SWL of 2.82t, a maximum working height of 8.7m and a maximum radius of 8.2m.

Its powerful lithium batteries are fast-charging and provide long-lasting low carbon footprint power, making it the ideal mini crane for working both outdoors as well as indoors, where zero-fumes operation is often essential.

Hird also has an extensive hire fleet of Valla pick and carry cranes, ranging from 2t to 8t, and provides a full range of crane operator training at its four operational hubs across the UK.
