Product of the Month – Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO spider crane

Product of the Month – Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO spider crane

How times are changing. Not long ago, battery electric cranes were the exception. Now they are fast becoming the norm.

Take, for example, our Product of the Month for May, the Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO. It is one of Hird’s growing fleet of advanced battery electric Maeda spider cranes.

A key driver for its development has been rapid growth in demand for sustainable lifting equipment to work within regulations to reduce carbon footprints.

But our customers are quickly finding battery electric power, and the advanced features built into the Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO, deliver big advantages in their own terms.

Once tried, for many, there is no desire to go back.

Flexibility built in

Our Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO spider crane has a maximum safe working load of 2.98t (at 2.5m), with a maximum working radius of 12.16m (SWL: 260kg) and a maximum lifting height of 12.52m (SWL: 790kg).

Its high-capacity zero-emissions lithium battery pack makes the mini cranes ideal for working on both indoor and outdoor lifting applications.

It is the type of flexibility our customers appreciate as they can use one crane productively across multiple lifting tasks, for example installing an internal staircase and external windows.

The battery pack can be fully charged in a rapid 4.5 hours. It can also be charged during continuous lifting operations with an onboard 110v charger, a function that ensures the spider crane always delivers a full day’s work.

Being an electric mini crane, the Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO is also very quiet. This supports operations in low-noise environments, potentially extending operating times, and for safety-critical tasks, an example being aviation maintenance.

Compact and light crane

As with all Hird’s Maeda spider cranes, the MC305CB-3 ECO is extremely compact in tracking mode, one of several key features that support safe and precision lifting in challenging spaces.

The mini crane is just 1280mm wide, 1695mm high and 4195mm long. It can be operated (for tracking and lifting) using a wireless remote control unit, which means the crane operator can always be positioned optimally, as close to the lifting point as necessary.

The spider crane is also light for the loads it can lift. This, combined with the load-spreading tracks, makes it ideal for working across sensitive or low load-bearing floors, for instance across paved pedestrian areas when installing glass.

The spider crane has variable outriggers, so it can be set up for lifting in highly congested spaces, with the crane’s onboard computer automatically adjusting lifting duties, as a result.

The Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO can also be fitted with an 850kg or 1,500kg searcher hook, extending the lifting radius, and enabling the lifting of loads over obstacles or where overhead space is restricted.

As with all Maeda spider cranes, the mini crane provides an exceptional tip height for its size.  However, it is just as capable at carrying out belowground lifting.

In a four-fall cable set-up, it can reach 16.09m, with two falls, that extends to 32.18m. And, with a single fall, the crane can lower or lift loads across a range of 64.36m.

This means the Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO delivers exceptionally safe and productive service when working up the side of buildings, or when lowering and lifting loads in deep shafts.

Multiple lifting applications

The spider crane is packed with features that enhance safety and productivity. Among them is its full colour operating screen, providing easy-to-follow load monitoring data.

The Maeda MC305CB-3 ECO’s safety devices include overwind protection, an outrigger interlock device and a tilt alarm.

The spider crane is popular with Hird’s customers for a wide range of tasks, including factory machinery lifting, glass and curtain wall installation, steel erection, artwork installation, and process plant maintenance and installation.

It is also just one of the Maeda spider lifts in Hird’s mini crane hire lift, including other advanced lithium battery electric ECO models.

They include the Maeda MC285CB-3 ECO, which has a lifting capacity of 2.82t, and the Maeda MK3053C ECO knuckle boom crane, with its SLW of 2.98t.

Hird can also provide the training needed to use the spider crane – CPCS A66 compact crane (A. Static Stabilisers) – at any of its operational hubs across the country.
