Product of The Month – Maeda MC285 spider crane
Our lifting customers just can’t get enough of our Product of the Month for April – the Maeda MC285 mini crane.
We’ve got a big fleet of them across the UK, with eight of the machines added in 2017 already, and more on order.
What makes this mini marvel special? For a start, as spider cranes go, it is very mini.
When stowed, the Maeda MC285 is just 750mm across. That’s the equivalent of 57.7 iPhone 6s, or just over half the width of a Mini Cooper.
Put more practically, it can fit through a standard doorway, and into construction lifts, so it is ideal for operating in confined spaces on building sites.
It is glass installation for high rise construction projects where Maeda MC285 spider cranes are really proving their worth.
They are designed to have excellent below the crane lifting performance.
Unrivalled negative lift duty
When fitted with an electric winch, they have industry-leading negative lift duty or 900kg at 100 metres. Its nearest rival can achieve a negative lift duty of 800kg at 59.4 metres.
The enormous advantage the Maeda MC285 gives our clients has resulted in it being used on many high profile skyscraper construction projects, including the 31-storey Dollar Bay development in London Docks.
In fact, performance advantages can be found wherever you look in with these tracked spider cranes.
It is fitted with a two-cylinder petrol or LPG engine. The main competitor mini crane has a single cylinder engine. The result is that the Maeda has longer service intervals.
That gives our clients greater confidence in the mini cranes in our hire fleet, and improved lifting productivity.
Small crane, big performance numbers
The Maeda MC285 mini crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 2.82 tonnes, a maximum tip height of 8.7 metres, and a maximum working radius of 8.205m.
It’s small size and weight (max 1950kg) means it is in high demand where low ground loading is needed. The spider crane can also be fitted with an 850kg searcher hook.
As well as construction, the machines are in high demand for factory maintenance and facilities management tasks.
It can be fitted with a wide range of vacuum lifters, and it’s fast set up system maximises glass installation productivity throughout a working day.
