May Product of the Month – Valla V46R pick and carry crane
All the cranes in Valla’s new V range of pick and carry cranes can do impressive things.
But our Product of the Month for May, the Valla V46R, has a particularly neat trick.
It can lift a load that is 28% heavier than the crane directly below it in the range. While being exactly the same size.
The V46R is an evolution of the Valla 36R that, thanks to the very smart work of the design and technical team at Valla, has created a step-change in mini crane performance.
Wide as a comfy chair
In fixed hook mode, it has a maximum safe working load (SWL) of 4.6t, a maximum working height of 7.2m and a maximum radius of 4.7m.
With its optional hydraulic fly jib deployed, this performance is extended to a maximum working height of 8.6m, maximum radius of 5.8m and a maximum SWL of 1t.
This additional up-and-over performance can make a critical difference when lifting in complex environments or where a low roof or obstruction limits the crane’s tip height.
In terms of dimensions, the main body of the Valla V46R mini crane is 2465mm long, while the crane is 1570mm high and just 900mm wide – about the same width as a comfy chair.
And those are precisely the same dimensions as the Valla V36R pick and carry crane – which has a maximum SWL of 3.6t, a maximum fixed hook working height of 7.5m and a maximum radius of 4.7m.
For the record, the V36R mini crane can also be combined with a hydraulic fly jib, giving it a maximum working height of 8.5m, a maximum radius of 5.8m, and a maximum SWL of 1t.
Wireless remote control
The star of this show, though, is the Valla V46R.
For a pick and carry crane that can lift 1t more, the Valla V46R is only marginally heavier than the V36R. Its total machine weight is 4.3t compared to the V36R’s 3.9t.
What this translates into is a mini crane that is exceptionally compact, even by industrial crane standards.
It can be moved through complex and highly constrained spaces and be positioned as close as possible to the location a load has to be lifted out of or into.
The mini crane is also highly manoeuvrable. With a turn of its rear wheels, the crane operator creates a slewing effect, so loads can be lifted out and away from a lift point, smoothly and safely.
Also, it is operated, for both drive and lifting, using a wireless remote control console. This allows the crane operator to stand in the optimum location to control the lift, both in terms of safety and productivity.
Its digital 3B6 load monitoring system, displayed on a large, full-colour screen, also helps make sure lifts are managed safely and smoothly.
As with all pick and carry cranes in the Valla V Range, the Valla V46R battery electric powered, which means it is zero emissions, near silent and has a low-carbon footprint.
It is also fitted with non-marking solid tyres, making the mini crane ideal for lifting in all indoor spaces, including factories and clean engineering environments.
Factory tandem lifts
The Valla V46R pick and carry crane can also be combined with a range of accessories, including winches and vacuum lifting attachments, also available for hire from Hird.
These include one of the UK’s largest selections of glass vacuum lifters, Righetti cladding vacuum lifters, plus stone and glass reinforced concrete (GRC) vacuum lifters.
These attachments give a strong pointer to the flexibility of the Valla V46R in completing a wide range of lifting tasks.
Its core strength lies in simplifying lifting projects, with its ability to carry loads, as well as lift them in and out of challenging locations – as well as combining with another Valla mini crane for tandem lifts of tanks and production vessels.
The Valla V46R pick and carry crane is ideal for lifting in factories for machinery maintenance, machinery moving, machinery installation and decommissioning.
It can also be used in construction environments for glass and cladding installation, artwork installation and building maintenance.
Mini crane hire fleet
The mini crane is also perfect for aviation maintenance, both in hangars and on external hard standing areas, and for moving loads between the two.
The Valla V46R is one of a wide range of Valla mini cranes available from Hird, a growing number of them V cranes, with SWLs from 2.25t to 25t.
Other V cranes include the Valla V80R (SWL 8t), the Valla V110R (SWL 11t) and the Valla V210RC (SWL 21t) which can be controlled remotely or from an onboard cab. Both the Valla V80R and the Valla V210R can also be fitted with a fork attachment.
