Our first Product of the Month of 2017 is the Genie Z80/60 diesel boom
As powered access equipment is used more and more on construction sites and maintenance projects (to name but two) attention has turned to increased its productivity.
That’s where the Hird PoTM for January 2017 comes into its own. The Genie Z80/60 has industry-leading features designed specifically to make it faster, easier and safer to use.
Central to this approach by Genie is its FastMast system. As diesel booms have got bigger, and their capacity has increased, our powered access hire customers have wanted to use them for more complex jobs, often involving more than one person.
That means more equipment, and more materials need to be carried in the basket, increasing the need for planning working at height projects more precisely to account for the greater complexity.
But working at height teams still need to come down to the ground – and if they also need to pick up more materials, or use different equipment, the basket needs to be lowered.
With a conventional diesel boom, that can take time, as the operator has to move and lower a number of boom arms to get the basket to the ground.
Not with the Genie Z80/60 diesel boom. It’s FastMast system increases operator productivity by allowing the basket to be lowered to the ground, or another surface, without having to articulate the secondary boom.
Time is saved. The boom operation is managed with a more simple process, increasing safety and making the boom operator’s job easier.

Now we’ve hammered home that point, what are the other key features of this highly capable machine?
Another benefit of the Genie Z80/60 diesel boom’s innovative reverse-articulating secondary boom is the 8.83m of up and over reach it delivers with zero front arm swing.
It has a maximum working height of 26.38 metres. It has a lifting capacity of 227kg, yet the boom is just 2.49 metres wide, with a gross operational weight of 17,010kg.
It can be fitted with a 6ft or an 8ft platform. Its four-wheel drive system with full-time positive traction gives it a smooth ride even over quite rough ground, so is ideal for use on construction sites.
These diesel booms also have powerful yet ultra-quiet diesel engines, and smooth proportionate joystick control, so they are a delight to operate and work around.
