What difference does a fly jib make to the Valla 25EL?
Well, ask Volkwagen, Europe’s biggest car maker.
The new Valla 25EL with adjustable fly jib is our Hird Machine of the Month for January.
The addition of the one metre long jib on this little corker of a mini pick and carry crane has already impressed Volkswagen.
The German giant has bought the mini crane to carry out machinery tooling changing duties in one of its factories.
And the fly jib is a key element of the mini crane’s capability, says Hird Mini Crane Sales and Aftersales Manager Carl Cooper.
He explains: “The Valla 25EL mini crane is ideal for use in machinery moving in factories and has always been popular with manufacturing clients.
“At just 950mm wide and weighing 2,000kg, it is a highly compact pick and carry crane that can be used on a huge number of tasks.
“The addition of an adjustable fly jib gives the crane yet another dimension that impressed Volkswagen. They could see the benefits.”
The fly jib, which is manually adjusted and has two settings – 20 degrees or 40 degrees – extends the reach of the crane.
It also increases its capacity to reach over obstacles to place the hook over a load, and to carry out lifts where overhead space is restricted.
Carl Cooper said: “In factories, with large and complex machine tool set-ups, the extra reach these mini cranes provide can make all the difference.
“It can speed up the refitting of production machinery, reduced the number of people working on change-overs, reduce manual handling, which reduces health and safety risks.
“The Valla 25EL pick and carry crane with fly jib provides a safe working load (SWL) of 450kg at a tip height of 5m and a radius of 3.5m, and a SWL of 300kg at maximum radius. We’re expecting that to impress a lot of customers.”
The mini crane is electric powered and is fitted with non-marking solid tyres, so is ideal for working in clean internal environments.
As with all Valla mini cranes, it is also fitted with a 3B6 load monitoring indicator system as standard, enhancing productivity and safety.
It has a maximum lifting capacity of 2.25 tonnes and is highly manoeuvrable, operated with a drive tiller fitted with a bump stop safety system.
As well as factory machinery moving, these mini cranes are ideal for glass lifting and installation, curtain wall installation and many other material moving tasks.
