“Biggest customer in Europe” Hird adds to Maeda fleet
Mini crane hire specialist Hird is in the process of adding 15 more Maeda spider cranes to its fleet.
Maeda mini cranes are the most popular machines of their type in the world. Driven by growing customer demand, Hird is doing its bit to make them very popular in the UK as well.
Maeda sales chief Alan Peck, Sales Director at Kranlyft UK, said Hird has become the mini crane manufacturer’s biggest customer in Britain over the last 18 months.
Hird was “probably” Maeda’s biggest customer in Europe, he added.

Four new tracked spider cranes are being delivered this month. They include one MC-405CRM(E) spider crane and three MC-285CRM(E) spider cranes.
Hird is also taking delivery of eight more MC-285CRM(E) spider cranes over the following four months, along with three MC-815CRM(E) spider cranes.
The cranes are used for a wide range of lifting projects, from glass installation, curtainwall erection, factory maintenance, and construction.
Last year, Hird became the first mini crane hire company in the world to place an order for the new MC-815CRM(E), now Maeda’s biggest mini crane,
The spider crane can lift a maximum eight tonnes. It also has a pick and carry capacity of 1,999kg and is packed with all the latest safety and efficiency technology.
It has a multi-function touch screen monitor, power lifting mode, joystick control and auto-levelling and auto stow functions that can be operated remotely.
The spider crane has a maximum working height, but it is only 1670mm wide, so delivers excellent lift performance within an ultra-compact design.
The mini crane can also be fitted with an optional 1.5 tonne hydraulic fly jib, increasing its reach and up-and-over lifting capability, making it ideal for lift projects where space is particularly confined.
