Hird boosts mobile crane hire capability with new Liebherr

Hird has added significantly to the capacity of its mobile crane hire service with the purchase of a Liebherr LTM1060 3.1 all-terrain crane.

The new mobile crane has a maximum safe working load of 60 tonnes and delivers industry-leading lifting capability in areas were space is restricted.

Hird Managing Director Phil Hird, pictured above left, with the mobile crane’s driver, Craig Jessop, said: “The Liebherr LTM1060 3.1 mobile crane has the latest advanced features that enhance safety as well as lifting flexibility and productivity.

“We can do more for our clients, in less time and in ways that are much less likely to cause less disruption to their operations. It’s an exciting addition to our mobile crane hire service.”

High load capacity

The three-axle LTM 1060-3.1 is designed to provide particularly high load capacities and long boom systems for a relatively compact mobile crane.

It has Liebherr’s award-winning VarioBase system. This uses a sophisticated load limiter system to allows each outrigger to be extended to different lengths while maintaining impressive work ranges.

Hird’s mobile crane operator can concentrate on the lift knowing that VarioBase will ensure the crane is being used safely at all times.

Confined space operation

Phil Hird said: “Thanks to VarioBase, we can lift loads with the Liebherr LTM1060 3.1 in a tightly confined space, where otherwise a larger crane operated further from the lifting point might have been needed.”

Fast and smart set up and derigging systems, plus sophisticated wireless remote control, add to the productivity, precision and safety of lifting with Hird’s new mobile crane.

The Liebherr LTM1060 3.1 booms from 10.3 metres up to 48 metres. With the addition of a lattice jib, maximum tip height reaches 63 metres.

Another significant advantage is the ability to start up and then operate the crane from a two-piece remote control unit, giving Craig, our crane driver, the opportunity to set up and control lifts from the most advantageous position, away from the cab.

Hird also operates a 100 tonne Grove GMK4100L all-terrain mobile crane.

The four axle GMK4100L has a 60-metre main boom and can lift up to 1.6 tonnes at a radius of 48 metres. Like the Liebherr, Hird selected the crane for its flexibility and productivity working in confined areas.
