Last year we told you that Hird was supplying Valla compact mini cranes and Unic mini cranes to carry out glazing work installing all of the 11,500 glass panels at the prestigious ‘Shard’, part of the New London Bridge Quarter development underway in the nation’s capital, including the full London Bridge station upgrade.
The scissor lift hire, boom lift hire and pick and carry crane hire specialists from Hull, Yorkshire, has been asked to supply Powered Access and additional Spider Cranes as work begins on the first phase of five giant canopies from its Southern hire depot based in Redhill, Surrey, just outside London.
Hird has also been supplying the project with a wide range of glass lifting equipment and accessories, such as A-frames, and glazing robots to make the building progress both safer and quicker, as well as our UNIC 095, UNIC 295 & 376 models working on the London Bridge Station upgrade.
John Wilding, Hird’ Project Manager at the Shard, said: “We have delivered a full glazing and mini crane package for the internal & external work at the Shard project. We are now supplying for the first phase on the giant lower canopies powered access & spider cranes for hire and supplying machines such as the one pictured, the Manitou 180ATJ boom lift, providing its operator with 17.65 meters of working height, alongside a GS4390 Rough Terrain Scissor Lift & 2 x UNIC 706 Mini Cranes performing tandem lifts on the 13m long, finished steel beams which will support the glass.”
A vast range of powered access, >glass handling and lifting equipment is available nationwide, from the Hird Northern Depots – serving Scotland, the North East and North West; Central Depots – serving Wales, the West Midlands and East Midlands and Southern Depots – serving East Anglia, the South East, South West and London.
The Shard, when completed will be Europe’s tallest building and will house residential apartments, the UK’s first 7-Star Hotel, restaurants, bars and offices. It will stand at approximately 310 meters (1017ft).
