Hird continues to provide a wide range of operator training courses to its customers across the UK. The powered access, glass handling and pick & carry crane hire specialists based in Hull, Yorkshire, can deliver training courses from its Northern, Central or Southern Depot.

IPAF (Independent Powered Access Federation) 3a Mobile Vertical and 3b Mobile Boom (scissor lift & self propelled boom) courses are becoming highly popular at the Central Depot, based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. This compliments the well established IPAF training centre at Hird’s Northern Depot, in Hull, East Yorkshire.

Hird’s are also accredited by RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board), PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association), and City & Guilds to deliver training courses. The crane hire professionals are also a fully accredited test centre for the CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme).

Some of the most popular training courses offered by Hird’s include:
Crane courses (mobile, crawler, compact, Valla, Maeda, Overhead Gantry, Pedestal and Knuckle boom), MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) courses, Health & Safety courses such as Work at Height Awareness, Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels etc… Various forklift courses (including Counter Balance, Reach, Telescopic Handler, Rough Terrain Masted, Side Loader, Pallet Truck etc), construction plant courses (including Forward Tipping Dumpers and Mini Excavators) and CPCS courses such as A66 Compact Crane, A40 Slinger Signaller and A61 Appointed Person are also provided.

In particular, the popular CPCS A66 Compact Crane course is recognised by all UK contractors as the standard qualification for operating plant machinery.

The CPCS A66 Compact Crane training course covers:

On the achievement of the red CPCS Trained Operators Card, endorsed with the A66 Compact Cranes, the candidate will need to complete the appropriate Plant Operator NVQ, within the cards 2 year life, in order to progress to a blue CPCS Competent Operator Card. Hird’s provide a full profiling and assessment service, to guide the candidate towards the achievement of the required NVQ.

All training courses are available at highly competitive rates and, if customers are unable to get to a Hird training site, most can also be delivered at a customer’s own site if the facilities are suitable. Hird can also tailor training programmes to suit individual trainee or company needs.
