This course is aimed at inexperienced operators who are required to undertake slinging and signalling for the movement of loads using lifting equipment. Candidates may be new to the role or may be those with limited experience and no formal training.

- Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations
- Crane types, capabilities and limitations
- Duties charts
- Crane terminology
- Proximity hazards
- Documentation and certification for lifting equipment and lifting accessories
- Methods of communication
- Safe Load Indicators (SLI) & Safe Working Loads (SWL)
- Types of lifting accessories & safe use
- Slinging techniques
- Down rating of accessories
- Sling angles & the effect on SWL
- Preparing a lift site in accordance with the AP’s safe system of work

Mandatory entry requirements
- CITB Health, Safety & Environment test needs to have been passed within the previous 23 months before the course start date. The entry level for this category is the Operatives test. For health & safety test bookings please phone CITB on 0344 994 4488.
