HIRD Supplies Mini Cranes to Shard Project

Hird is supplying Valla pick & carry cranes and Unic spider cranes to carry out glazing work at The Shard – Europe’s tallest building, and part of the New London Bridge Quarter development. The building will have 11,000 panes of glass.

The aerial work platform and mini crane hire specialists originally setup in Hull, Yorkshire, recently opened a Southern hire depot and won the contract to supply the mini cranes to the prestigious project at the Shard, following the company’s investment in a large fleet of Unic spider cranes and Glass Vacuum handling equipment specifically for the Southern market.

As the project progresses, Hird will also be in a position to supply the project with glass lifting equipment and glazing robots, enabling construction to progress more rapidly and with greater safety.

Phil Hird, Hird Director, said: “Because we now have our Southern depot, we can provide our ever increasing customer base with an extensive range of spider cranes, pick and carry cranes, Glass Handling equipment and lifting training we offer at our training centres in the UK

“CPCS Compact Crane operator training (A66) can be carried out at our fully accredited test centre. IPAF, Access Platform training can also be carried out at our centre or at the customer’s own facilities, as long as they are suitable. Throughout the UK the quality of Hird’ first class hire and training services are just the same!”

The Shard will be 1,017 feet tall. The development includes apartments, a hotel, spa, shops, restaurants, bars and offices.
