Developer praises Hird for “diligent and exceptional” crane hire service

A property developer has praised Hird for the “exceptionally good service” provided by its crane hire team for a luxury house building project in Yorkshire.

Hornby Homes commissioned Hird to supply a mobile crane to lift wooden roof tresses into place on the new detached home being built in Hessle, near Hull, in East Yorkshire.

Les Hornby, managing director of Hornby Homes, said he selected Hird’s crane hire service because it was the only company to carry out a site survey and determine the best approach for the job.

The site survey was carried out by Hird Crane and Machinery Moving Manager Mick Bradshaw.

Les Hornby said: “I felt very assured that Mick knew his stuff and would be very reliable. He was also very accommodating when I needed to extend the crane hire to complete the work.”

Mr Hornby said he was also very impressed with Hird crane driver Craig Jessop, adding: “Craig did a perfect job. He was diligent, knowledgeable, friendly, cooperative and patient. It was a pleasure to have him on site.”

Hornby Homes is a developer of exclusive, bespoke luxury homes. This property had six bedrooms, five bathrooms and an estimated value of £750,000.

Mick Bradshaw said: “We’re very pleased that Mr Hornby was pleased with our service. Carrying out a site survey is, in our estimation, an essential part of the crane hire process, especially in terms of health and safety.

“Some crane hire companies feel they can cut corners and their own costs by not doing a survey. But understanding the full nature of the job gives both us and the customer complete assurance that we can fulfil all requirements.

“Also carrying out a crane hire site survey ensures there are no hidden snags that can disrupt the lift, causing delays and unnecessary costs which can be bad for the customer and for us. It pays, in the long-run, to be thorough.”

Hird supplied its Grove GMK 3050 all-terrain mobile crane to carry out the contract lift for Hornby Homes. The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 50 tonnes with a 38 tonne boom.
Whatever the contract lifting or machinery moving project, Hird has the crane hire equipment to complete the task.

The company has a full range of mini crane hire and spider crane hire options, including Valla pick and carry cranes and spider cranes from UNIC and Maeda.
