Valla and Elebia take lifting productivity to the next level

Hird Group teamed up with global crane hook manufacturer Elebia at Vertikal Days 2018 to demonstrate how automatic hook technology and Valla compact cranes can be a perfect match.

A Manitex Valla 22E pick and carry crane was fitted with an Elebia evo2 hook to show the additional flexibility and productivity that can be achieved when used together.

The demonstration, at Vertikal Days (16-17 May 2018) at Donington Park, Derbyshire, impressed visitors who can see the benefits of being able to automatically hook on to and release a load.

Carl Cooper, Hird Group’s Crane and After Sales Manager, said: “Even with the smaller Valla compact cranes, like the Valla 22E, there are times when gaining access to hook up and release loads is difficult.

“It’s a problem that can result in the need for more complicated lifting methodologies, using additional equipment, more personnel, and more time, all adding to the lifting costs.

“That’s where Elebia automatic crane hooks come into their own. Valla pick and carry cranes are highly flexible and productive and can be operated in highly confined spaces.

“Combined with Elebia automatic crane hooks, those operational advantages can be taken to the next level, and it may be a level that the crane operator would otherwise not be able to reach.”

Elebia automatic crane hooks

Elebia, based in Spain, can supply automatic hooks for all Valla pick and carry cranes available from Hird, from the 20E, with a lifting capacity of 2 tonnes to the Valla 250E, which has a safe working load of 25 tonnes.

The automatic hooks, powered by a lithium battery with an operational life of a week when fully charged, have a safety failsafe that prevents a suspended load from being dropped.

They can be controlled from the main Valla compact crane control panel, or from the machine’s remote-control panel.

Carl Cooper said: “This set up is ideal for lifting projects in controlled environments, for example where lifting is carried out close to potentially hazardous substances.

“That would include during decommissioning of nuclear sites, and chemical plants. We’re pleased to be able to show how combining two innovative lifting technologies can deliver such significant benefits.”
