<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Once in a while, we take Product of the Month off piste to cover stuff that’s not made of metal and would hurt if it ran over your foot.</h2>



<p><strong>We’re doing it now, because our Product of the Month for April is Hird service.</strong></p>



<p>We think it’s important to remember, every now and then, that a product is not just the kit. It is also the smile on the face (seen or sensed over the phone), the helping hand, and the challenge overcome.</p>



<p>It’s a bit of a journey into the intangible. You can see a robotic glass lifter (as long as it is delivered on time). But service can be less easy to define.</p>



<p>So, here we are talking about elements of service that have a direct impact on our customers. That makes sure the kit is delivered on time, and the customer and their client are happy.</p>



<p>The point is, we can all be tempted by a sales pitch. By a bargain. By something new. Here at Hird, we know, in the world of industrial equipment hire, consistency counts.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The curious engineer</strong></h2>



<p><strong>In fact, expertise has always been at the centre of our service. It is epitomised by the development by Peter Hird Snr, who founded the business, of what has become known as the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/service-and-maintenance/the-hird-test-measuring-mewp-battery-endurance">Hird Test</a>.</strong></p>



<p>Back in the 1980s, after a customer complained about the poor battery performance of an access platform, Peter Hird Snr set out to develop a method for checking how long a battery should last for every type and model of MEWP in the fleet.</p>



<p>It was the engineer in him. He wanted to know. That determination, led to a battery endurance test – the Hird Test – that is still used by manufacturers and rental specialists around the world.</p>

Product of the Month – Hird Service

40 years of Hird – the lifting team that won’t let you down

<h2>Here at Hird we like nothing better than finding simple solutions to potentially very challenging problems – which is why the Product of the Month for April is our <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys/tilting-glass-trolley/">tilting glass trolley</a>.</h2> </h2><p><strong>We have an excellent range of <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys">glazing trolleys</a> for glass of all shapes, sizes and weights and, with the <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys/tilting-glass-trolley/">tilting glass trolley</a>, we have one that will literally lean into a glass transport problem.</strong></p> <p>Construction sites can pose major problems for glass installers. Obstructions, such as scaffolding poles and boards, as well as machinery, can restrict room for manoeuvre.</p> <p></br></p> <h2><strong>Prevent glazing delays</strong></h2> <p><strong>With a large glass panel on a standard <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys">glass trolley,</a> it can be the case that but for a few centimetres of leeway, it is impossible to get around the obstruction, resulting in the need for a long detour or a delay to installation.</strong></p> <p>On top of that, it may be helpful to bring a glass panel to an aperture from one side and fit it from the other. But this may not be possible with a standard glass trolley because it will not fit through the available gap.</p> <p>The <strong><a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys/tilting-glass-trolley/">Hird tilting glass trolley</a></strong> is designed to overcome these challenges, allowing the glass to be kept securely on the trolley until the moment it is required to be removed and installed in the simplest and safest way.</p> <p></br></p> <h2><strong>Productive glass trolleys</strong></h2> <div class="row"><div class="halfCol col-md-6"> <p><strong>That includes reducing to a minimum the need for manual handling, which exposes operatives to the risk of injury and the glass and surrounding structures to the risk of damage – and slows down the installation process, reducing productivity.</strong></p> <p>What is particularly useful about our tilting glass trolley is how simple it is to operate.</p> <p>The <strong><a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys/tilting-glass-trolley/">trolley</a></strong> has a maximum safe working load of 600kg and can carry glass panels up to 2.5m in length, so it can be used to move hefty glazed panels. Yet its simple operating system makes it light and compact so it can be used just like any standard glass transport trolley.</p> <p>The tilting mechanism is controlled manually with a winding handle. The trolley can be set up for two tilting ranges. Position one allows glass panels to be taken from 8° to 35° while position two allows the load to be tilted between 15° and 45°.</p> </p> </div><div class="halfCol col-md-6"> <div class="wp-block-image"> <figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys/tilting-glass-trolley/"><img loading="lazy" width="600" height="800" src="https://hird.co.uk/assets/uploads/2022/09/tilting-glass-trolley-600kg-3.jpg" alt="tilting-glass-trolley-600kg-3"></a></figure> </div> </div></div>  <div class="clearboth"></div> <p></br></p> <h2><strong>Fast and safe positioning</strong></h2> <div class="row"><div class="halfCol col-md-6"> <p><strong>It means glass to be quickly and safely positioned with no chance of the load slipping or being dropped during the process.</strong></p> <p>The <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys/tilting-glass-trolley/"><strong>Hird tilting glass trolley</strong></a> can be continuously adjusted for any environment and is ideal, for example, for moving glass panels through low entrance doors, passageways and façade openings of varying widths and heights.</p> <p>Quite literally, it will allow glass installers to reach places via routes that could not be used before, eliminating the need, in some cases, for much more expensive glass moving solutions.</p> <p>Why, for example, use a crane to lift glass panels into position when Hird’s tilting glass trolley allows it to be simply carried through a building, perhaps via a construction lift.</p> </p> </div><div class="halfCol col-md-6"> <div class="wp-block-image"> <figure class="aligncenter size-large"><a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys/tilting-glass-trolley/"><img loading="lazy" width="600" height="800" src="https://hird.co.uk/assets/uploads/2022/09/tilting-glass-trolley-600kg-4.jpg" alt="tilting-glass-trolley-600kg-4"></a></figure> </div> </div></div>  <div class="clearboth"></div> <p></br></p> <h2><strong>Big range of <a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/products/glass-trolleys">glazing trolleys</a></strong></h2> <p><strong>Hird can provide a range of other glass transportation trolleys designed to overcome other installation challenges. Product of the Month – Tilting glass trolley

<h3>With 2021 hurtling towards us the PoTM desk at Hird is presenting its end of year review of the machines and equipment we have showcased over the last 12 months.<p><strong>As you would expect, they are widely varied, given the comprehensive service Hird provides for mini crane lifting, working at height, glass lifting, mobile crane lifting and all things in between.</strong></p><div class="row"><div class="halfCol col-md-6"> <h2><a href="https://hird.co.uk/backend/news/mini-cranes/product-of-the-month-maeda-mc285-3-mini-crane">January – Maeda MC285-3 mini spider crane</a></h2> </h2><p><strong>We began 2020 with a review of one of Hird’s newest mini cranes. The latest version of the Maeda MC285 has a full colour digital screen that allows operatives to better control this very impressive spider crane.</strong><br>It has a maximum safe working load of 2.82t, a maximum tip height of 8.7m and a maximum working radius of 8.2m. And we took our inspiration from martial arts supremo Bruce Lee whose mantra was “No Limits”.</strong></p> <p>With a maximum SLW of 2.25t, a maximum tip height of 5.3m and a maximum radius of 3.5m, the electric battery powered Valla 25E is a go anywhere and do anything mini lifting power house. Which is why it also did a very good job of being our Product of the Month for March.</strong></p> <p>The Hinowa LL 26.14 has a maximum working height of 25.7m, a working outreach of 13.73m and an unrestricted basket capacity of 230kg. Our Product of the Month for May allows our clients to be work at height sustainably, which is good for the client and the planet and it can be hired from Hird, the cherry on top.</strong></p> <p>The Niftylift HR 21 All Wheel Drive (AWD) is a rough terrain hybrid cherry picker. So it can run on diesel or electric power or a combination of the both, whichever is best. In principle, this means it can be operated 24/7. But we all need a break. Well, Genie says, pretty fast. It can raise to full working height of 11.75m in 70 seconds flat.</strong></p> <p>At that speed, it could get around the Silverstone F1 circuit in 510 hours, or 21 and a smidge days. No wonder Lewis Hamilton romped to the World Championship title. It also comes with a comfy seat for the crane operator and is ideal for zero-emission environments like aircraft hangers. A key attribute is an enhanced basket capacity of 454kg, allowing operatives to carry more tools and parts.
