Powered access and panto stars – it’s Christmas lights time!

Powered access and panto stars – it’s Christmas lights time!

Yorkshire powered access hire company Hird was called in to supply a cherry picker used to put up giant Christmas trees in the centre of Hull.

A Genie S-65 diesel-powered boom from the Hird aerial platform hire fleet is being used to install the Christmas trees and festoon them with lights.

The trees are key features of the colourful Christmas lights show in the Rose Bowl, part of the Queens Gardens in the centre of Hull, in East Yorkshire.

It means that, when it comes to working at height to put up Christmas lights, or banners, flags and other structures for an event, powered access is as festive as the annual panto.

In fact, stars for Hull’s two pantomimes are expected to play a key part in the Christmas lights switch on, which takes place on Thursday, November 24, between 6.40pm and 7.45pm, in the Rose Bowl.

The Genie S-65 diesel boom was ideal for the teams putting up the Christmas trees and lights.

They had only a short period of time to get the job done, but Genie diesel booms are known for their productivity, versatility, reliability and safety.

The access platform has a maximum working height of 21.8 metres, so its basket could reach the highest branches of the Christmas tree with ease.

The diesel boom also has a maximum working outreach of 17.1 metres.

This meant it could be safely positioned on hard ground, while its basket could be placed directly next to the grass-covered position where the tree was to be installed.

Also, with a lifting capacity of 227kg, the diesel-powered cherry picker could lift the personnel, tools and lights needed for a fast and efficient installation process.

The S-65 diesel boom is one of just a number of boom platforms in the Hird powered access hire fleet, with smaller and larger machines available.

It means that, throughout the year, whatever the season, Hird has the working at height and lifting hire equipment needed prepare a site for any event, whether outdoor or indoor.

Hird, which is based in Hull, East Yorkshire, provides a national powered access hire service through its three operational centres.

The involves also delivering working at height and IPAF powered access training. We also supply mini cranes and glass lifting equipment for hire and for sale.
